Planar cell polarity (PCP) is a biological phenomenon where a large number of cells get polarized and coordinatedly align in a plane. PCP is an example of self-organization through local and global interactions between cells. In this work, we have used a lattice-based spin model for PCP that mimics the alignment of cells through local interactions. We have investigated the equilibrium behavior of this model. In this model, alignment of cells leads to the formation of clusters of aligned cells, and such clustering exhibits percolation transition. Even though the alignment of a cell in this model depends upon its neighbors, finite-size scaling analysis shows that this model belongs to the universality class of simple two-dimensional random percolation.

Background/objectives: Dithiocarbazates (DTCs) and their metal complexes have been studied regarding their property as anticancer activities. In this work, using S-benzyl-5-hydroxy-3-methyl-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pirazol-1-carbodithionate (Hbdtc), we prepared [ReO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] and [[Tc]TcO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] complexes for tumor uptake and animal biodistribution studies.
Methods: Re complex was prepared by a reaction of H2bdtc and (NBu)[ReOCl], the final product was characterized by IR, H NMR, CHN, and MS-ESI.

Isoindigo (IID)-based non-fullerene acceptors, known for their broad absorption spectra and high charge carrier mobilities, play a crucial role in organic photovoltaics. In this study, two A-DA'D-A type unfused ring acceptors (URAs), IDC8CP-IC and IDC6CP-IC, were designed and synthesized using cyclopentadithiophene (CPDT) and IID core units, each functionalized with different alkyl chains (2-hexyldecyl and 2-octyldodecyl), through an atom- and step-efficient direct C-H arylation (DACH) method. Both URAs, despite the absence of non-covalent conformation locking between CPDT and IID, demonstrated favorable molecular planarity, broad absorption ranges, low band gaps, and high molar absorption coefficients.

The growth and survival of cells with different fitness, such as those with a proliferative advantage or a deleterious mutation, is controlled through cell competition. During development, cell competition enables healthy cells to eliminate less fit cells that could jeopardize tissue integrity, and facilitates the elimination of pre-malignant cells by healthy cells as a surveillance mechanism to prevent oncogenesis. Malignant cells also benefit from cell competition to promote their expansion.
