A new biopolymer obtained from onion pulp ( L.) was employed to produce a sustainable substrate for flexible organic light-emitting diodes (FOLEDs). Indium tin oxide (ITO) and SiO thin films were deposited by rf-magnetron sputtering onto these biosubstrates to obtain flexible, transparent, and conductive anodes, on top of which FOLEDs were produced. This new biomaterial exhibits an optical transparency of 63% at 550 nm. ITO films were optimized by varying rf power during deposition onto the biopolymers, and their electrical properties are comparable to the those of ITO grown on top of rigid substrates: a carrier concentration of -3.63 × 10 cm and carrier mobility of 7.72 cm V s for the optimized film. Consequently, the sheet resistance and resistivity of this ITO film were 8.92 Ω sq and 2.23 × 10 Ω cm, respectively, hence allowing the production of FOLEDs. The L. based FOLED was fabricated using CuPc, β-NPB, and Alq as organic layers, and it exhibited a maximum luminance of about 2062 cd m at 16.6 V. The current efficiency reached a maximum value of 2.1 cd A at 85.3 mA cm. The obtained results suggest the possibility to use these substrates for innovative biocompatible applications in optoelectronics, such as photodynamic therapy.

This study explores the potential use of mould biomass and waste fibres for the production of agrotextiles. First, 20 mould strains were screened for efficient mycelium growth, with optimized conditions of temperature, sources of carbon and nitrogen in the medium, and type of culture (submerged or surface). A method was developed for creating a biocomposite based on the mould mycelium, reinforced with commercial bleached softwood kraft (BSK) pulp and fibre additives (cotton, hemp).

Unlabelled: Pasteurization (PS) causes the abnormal changes in volatiles and off-flavors in juices and limit the commercial production of juices. Herein, the first study on the biochemical reaction of volatile and nonvolatile compounds in response to PS factors during the process of sea buckthorn pulp (SBP) was evaluated. Processing conditions (mainly 80 °C for 20 min) had significant effects on the volatile and nonvolatile compounds.

In recent years, agricultural by-products have generated increasing interest as ruminant feed. In a completely randomized design with five experimental treatments, this in vitro study investigated the nutritional value of citrus pulp and onion peel as alternative feed for ruminants and their effects on rumen fermentation, digestibility, and gas production. The first group was the control (50% grass hay/50% concentrate mixture).

The biological microenvironment includes important parameters such as viscosity, polarity, temperature, oxygen content and pH. In particular, abnormal cell viscosity is associated with the development of major diseases. Sulphur dioxide (SO) serves not only as an essential atmospheric pollutant but also an influential signalling molecule in biological cells, predisposing individuals to increased respiratory disease.
