The clinical management of triple-negative breast cancer has been very difficult for a long time, being classical chemotherapy the only possible therapeutic approach given the absence of specific targets. However, the therapeutic armamentarium has recently been expanded thanks to the introduction of new molecules, in particular immunotherapy and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), which have made it possible to significantly improve the prognosis of this patient population both in the early and advanced settings. Since 2022, the ADC sacituzumab govitecan has been approved by the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) for the treatment of advanced/metastatic triple-negative breast cancer pretreated with at least two lines of systemic therapy, of which at least one for metastatic disease.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents a global health challenge, and ranks among one of the most prevalent and deadliest cancers worldwide. Therapeutic advances have expanded the treatment armamentarium for patients with advanced HCC, but obstacles remain. Precision oncology, which aims to match specific therapies to patients who have tumours with particular features, holds great promise.

Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is an emerging severe tick-borne illness. The expanding habitat of ticks, coupled with migratory birds harbouring CCHF-infected ticks, contributes to an increasing number of potential hosts. The seroprevalence of anti-CCHF virus antibodies in livestock is approximately one-quarter, with a noticeable upward trend in recent years.

Background: In the current era of heart transplantation, machine perfusion strategies are emerging as potential additions to the armamentarium of a transplant unit. Donation after circulatory death (DCD) donor hearts assessed through normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) has helped expand the donor pool. Hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) is emerging as an alternative strategy to traditional static cold storage (SCS) when a prolonged ischemic time is anticipated in brain dead (BD) donors, this is important in Australia where long distant procurement is vital.

Radiation injuries, particularly those resulting from therapeutic or accidental exposure, present complex challenges for medical management. These injuries can manifest localized skin damage or extend to deeper tissues, presenting as various clinical entities that require treatment strategies, ranging from conservative management to complex surgical interventions. Radiation treatment constitutes a fundamental component of neoplastic management, with nearly two out of three oncological instances undergoing it as an element of their therapeutic strategy.
