Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is associated with higher rates of incident cancer. Data are scarce regarding the association of incident CVD with oncologic outcomes after a cancer diagnosis.

Objectives: This study sought to determine whether incident myocardial infarction (MI) or heart failure (HF) in breast cancer survivors is associated with oncologic outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how changes in the Ki67 biomarker before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) affect survival in patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).
  • Among 1,777 TNBC patients analyzed, most showed a decrease in tumor size and Ki67 levels after NACT, though many had no change or experienced treatment discontinuation.
  • Patients with unchanged Ki67 had significantly worse overall and disease-specific survival compared to those with decreased Ki67, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment strategies based on ongoing monitoring of this biomarker.

Centre for Technology in Water and Wastewater, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Technology Sydney, Ultimo, NSW 2007, Australia. Electronic address:

The post-pandemic world still faces ongoing COVID-19 infections, although international travel has returned to pre-pandemic conditions. Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is considered an efficient tool for the population-wide surveillance of COVID-19 infections during the pandemic. However, the performance of WBE in post-pandemic era with travel restrictions lifted remains unknown.

Biomimetic calcification is a micro-crystallization process that mimics the natural biomineralization process, where biomacromolecules regulate the formation of inorganic minerals. In this study, it is presented that a protein-assisted biomimetic calcification method for the in situ synthesis of nitrogen-doped metal-organic framework (MOF) materials. A series of unique core-shell structures are created by utilizing proteins as templates and guiding agents in the nucleation step, creating ideal conditions for shell growth.
