The aquaporins (AQP), a protein family, were first discovered in the early 1990s. The primary role of aquaporins is to facilitate water transport across multiple cell types. In the spinal cord and brain responsible for most of the water diffusion are AQP4 and AQP1. In this paper, we describe the structure, localization and role of this water channel family, especially AQP4 and AQP1. AQP4 is involved in various pathologies such as: stroke, brain tumors, Neuromyelitis optica (NMO), Alzheimer's Disease (AD), traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's Disease, hydrocephalus, schizophrenia, epilepsy, major depressive disorder, autism. Brain edema is the most important acute complication of the hypoxic-ischemic and it has no pathogenic treatment. Imaging and histopathology studies have shown that inhibition of AQP4 reduces brain edema.

Objective: To evaluate the indicators of an animal model of gouty arthritis (GA) with dampness heat accumulation and the intervention effect of Tongfeng Qingxiao formula (, TFQXF).
Methods: Seventy-two healthy adult Sprague?Dawley male rats were selected and randomly divided into a normal group, model group, low-dose group, medium-dose group, high-dose group, and diclofenac group using a random number table method, with 12 rats in each group. After group intervention, the general condition of the rats in each group was monitored and recorded, and the swelling index was measured.

Background: Radiation-induced cardiac injury has emerged as a significant pathological entity, with many studies focusing on the fibrotic changes in myocardial tissue. However, these do not offer solutions for the clinical prevention and treatment of radiation-induced heart disease. Regulating hydrometabolism presents a potential therapeutic target for the management of cardiovascular diseases.

Background: Hydrocephalus is characterized by secretion, circulation, and absorption disorder of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with high morbidity and complication rate. The relationship between inflammation and abnormal secretion of CSF by choroid plexus epithelium (CPE) had received more attention. In this study, we aim to detect the role of Toll-like receptor 4/nuclear factor-kappa B/Na+/K+/2Cl-cotransporter 1(TLR4/NF-κB/NKCC1) signal pathway in the development of hydrocephalus.

One of the hallmarks of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (STEC-HUS) is kidney damage. Our previous research demonstrated that Shiga toxin type 2 (Stx2a) decreases cell viability and induces swelling of human glomerular endothelial cells (HGEC). However, Stx2a can disrupt net water transport across HGEC monolayers without affecting cell viability.
