Background: Sexual transmission and persistence of Zika virus (ZIKV) in the male reproductive tract has raised concerned for potential damaging effects on function. Animal studies have demonstrated that ZIKV virus can infect and damage the testis and epididymis, and these results has been correlated to lower sperm counts in ZIKV-infected humans. The prostate plays a vital role in the male reproductive tract, with acute and chronic prostatitis linked to male infertility.
Methods: In this study, we evaluated the effects of ZIKV virus on the prostate in mice and nonhuman primates.
Results: In mice, ZIKV infected the prostate and triggered inflammation that persisted even after virus clearance. Evidence of chronic prostatitis associated with ZIKV infection remained for several months. Similar histological findings were observed in the prostate of ZIKV-infected rhesus macaques.
Conclusions: These studies establish that ZIKV replicates in the prostate and can cause acute and chronic inflammatory and proliferative changes in mouse and nonhuman primate models.

Case: A 16-year-old woman presented with acute on chronic knee pain and instability following a twisting injury. The tibial insertion of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was nonvisualized on magnetic resonance imaging. A cord-like ACL, originating from the lateral intercondylar notch and inserting smoothly into the anterior horn of the intact lateral meniscus, was found on arthroscopy.

Purpose: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) have been noted to face increased cancer incidence. Yet, the impact of concomitant renal dysfunction on acute outcomes following elective surgery for cancer remains to be elucidated.
Methods: All adult hospitalizations entailing elective resection for lung, esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, hepatic, or colon cancer were identified in the 2016-2020 National Inpatient Sample.

Post-acute coronavirus disease 2019 syndrome (PACS), following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection or coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is typically characterized by long-term debilitating symptoms affecting multiple organs and systems. Unfortunately, there is currently a lack of effective treatment strategies. Altered gut microbiome has been proposed as one of the plausible mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of PACS; extensive studies have emerged to bridge the gap between the persistent symptoms and the dysbiosis of gut microbiome.

This first-in-man (FIM) study evaluated the feasibility and safety of a new peripheral plaque atherectomy system in patients with symptomatic lower extremity artery disease (LEAD). Ten patients with symptomatic LEAD (Rutherford class 2-5) were enrolled in a prospective, single-center study from March to April 2024. Patients aged 18-85 years with target lesions showing ≥70% stenosis and reference vessel diameters ≥1.

Background: Contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) is frequent in patients with chronic kidney disease who are submitted to cardiac endovascular procedures using iodinated contrast. In hemoadsorption, cartridges containing styrene-divinylbenzene sorbent resin are applied to remove substances from the blood through an extracorporeal circuit. Importantly, iodinated contrast is also removed via adsorption.
