The objective of this study was to compare the novel extraction-site development (XSD) technique with spontaneous healing. Advanced alveolar defects (extraction defect sounding, classes 3 and 4) at 33 single-rooted teeth were treated by XSD (test), and 21 extraction sites of single-rooted teeth were left for spontaneous healing (control). In pre- and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data sets, orovestibular and vertical socket dimensions were assessed, as were socket areas. XSD resulted in complication-free healing with significantly higher radiographic bone fill compared to spontaneous healing. Application of the XSD approach may reduce the need for augmentative procedures during implant placement.

Background: Complicated crown-root fracture (CRF) involves severe injury to the crown, root, and pulp, and may be accompanied by multiple root fractures. The loss of a tooth has lifelong consequences for children and teenagers, but the maintenance of pulp health and the calcific healing of multiple root fractures are rarely reported in the literature.
Case Summary: This case reports healing of a permanent tooth with complicated crown-root and additional root fractures, in which pulp health was maintained.

Chordomas are a low-to-intermediate-grade slow-growing subtype of sarcoma, but show propensity to grow and invade locally with recurrence and metastasis in 10-40% of cases. We describe the first case of spontaneous regression of a solid tumor (histologically and immunohistochemically proven chordoma) after COVID-19. A female patient with clival chordoma underwent occipitocervical fixation prior to tumor resection.
