Photonic integrated circuits require efficient interfaces to fiber optic components for applications in optical communication, computing, and sensing. Current optical interconnects rely on edge or grating couplers with limitations in terms of alignment tolerances, efficiency, and bandwidth, respectively. Here, we present a scalable coupling concept that allows fiber-to-chip coupling to the fundamental transverse electric and transverse magnetic modes based on three-dimensional nanostructures exploiting total internal reflection. We demonstrate close to octave-spanning highly efficient coupling to nanophotonic waveguides in the visible wavelength range. Our coupling scheme can be adjusted for other wavelength regimes and fiber mode-field diameters.

Cross-Coupling of Carbonyl Derivatives and -Arylamines Enabled by Visible Light for Easy Access to 1,2-Amino Alcohols.

J Org Chem

January 2025

International Joint Research Center for Molecular Science, College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, Guangdong 518060, P. R. China.

We disclosed a new strategy for the synthesis of 1,2-amino alcohols enabled by visible light without the requirement of a photocatalyst and metal. Under light irradiation at 400 nm, the reaction of carbonyl derivatives and -arylamines proceeds via an electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) intermediate, obtaining diverse vicinal amino alcohols decorated with a two-electron-rich/-deficient aryl group.

Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip, a rare cause of pelvic pain in the third trimester of pregnancy, often presents with nonspecific symptoms that resemble common musculoskeletal conditions. This ambiguity, coupled with concerns about the safety of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during pregnancy, can hinder timely diagnosis. We report a unique case of a 32-year-old primigravida diagnosed with a hip fracture and bilateral AVN of the femoral head in the immediate postpartum period, a complication seemingly not previously documented in pregnant patients.

The incorporation of polymeric insulators has led to notable achievements in the field of organic semiconductors. By altering the blending concentration, polymeric insulators exhibit extensive capabilities in regulating molecular configuration, film crystallinity, and mitigation of defect states. However, current research suggests that the improvement in such physical properties is primarily attributed to the enhancement of thin film morphology, an outcome that seems to be an inevitable consequence of incorporating insulators.

Unveiling the immunomodulator role of plasma oxidized lipids in SA-AKI progression: a CRRT perspective.

Front Physiol

December 2024

Department of Nephrology, Tangdu Hospital, The Fourth Military Medical University, Air Force Medical University, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China.

Background: Plasma oxidized lipids are intimately linked to immune regulation as bioactive mediators. However, it is not clear whether they are related to the progression of sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) and the effect of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). This study intends to explore the changes in certain oxidized lipid during CRRT treatment and their correlation with the immune microenvironment and prognosis by analyzing plasma oxidative lipidomics.
