Pyrene (Pr) was used to improve the electrochemical and electrochromic properties of polythiophene copolymerized with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT). The corresponding product, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene-co-Pyrene) (P(EDOT-co-Pr)), was successfully synthesized by electrochemical polymerization with different monomer concentrations in propylene carbonate solution containing 0.1 M lithium perchlorate (LiClO/PC (0.

Yellow-to-green electrochromic color switching plays a key role in the intelligent adaptive camouflage under the visible light environment in future military camouflage applications. Here, we designed and synthesized a soluble electrochromic conjugated pDPTD polymer, mainly based on perylo[1,12-bcd]thiophene and the novel ProDOT groups. The pDPTD polymer displayed a yellow-to-green electrochromism with large optical contrast and fast switching times.

Electrochromic supercapacitors, which indicate energy states through optical color changes, are gaining significant attention for their potential in energy saving and recycling. In this study, a novel metal-organic coordination polymer (DTPB-MCP) is successfully synthesized using an N,N'-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (DTPB)-functionalized phenanthroline ligand. The resulting DTPB-MCP film demonstrated desirable electrochromic performance in both the visible light (ΔT:77.

A Multimode Dynamic Color-Changing Device for Smart Windows Based on Integrating Thermochromic and Electrochromic Properties.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

November 2024

Key Laboratory of Science & Technology of Eco-Textile, Jiangnan University, Ministry of Education, Wuxi, Jiangsu 214122, China.

Electro- and thermochromic materials have been greatly applied in smart windows and displays due to the excellent properties of color variation and solar radiation. However, the mono color and single response to voltage and temperature hinder their application and development. Here, a multimode dynamic color-changing device (T/ECD) was developed by integrating the electrochromic property of synthetic viologen dyes and the thermochromic properties of hydroxypropyl acrylate (HPA).

The dual-functional device combining electrochromic properties and energy storage has gained numerous attentions in the field of energy-saving smart electronics. However, achieving simultaneous optimization of coloration efficiency and energy storage capacity of materials poses a significant challenge. This study presents a novel approach by incorporating methyl orange into Prussian blue channels (PB-MO films) to adjust the internal electronic structure of Prussian blue.
