Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases (BVMOs) are remarkable biocatalysts, but, due to their low stability, their application in industry is hampered. Thus, there is a high demand to expand on the diversity and increase the stability of this class of enzyme. Starting from a known thermostable BVMO sequence from Thermocrispum municipale (TmCHMO), a novel BVMO from Amycolaptosis thermoflava (BVMO ), which was successfully expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3), was identified. The activity and stability of the purified enzyme was investigated and the substrate profile for structurally different cyclohexanones and cyclobutanones was assigned. The enzyme showed a lower activity than that of cyclohexanone monooxygenase (CHMO ) from Acinetobacter sp., as the prototype BVMO, but indicated higher kinetic stability by showing a twofold longer half-life at 30 °C. The thermodynamic stability, as represented by the melting temperature, resulted in a T value of 53.1 °C for BVMO , which was comparable to the T of TmCHMO (ΔT =1 °C) and significantly higher than the T value for CHMO ((ΔT =14.6 °C)). A strong deviation between the thermodynamic and kinetic stabilities of BVMO was observed; this might have a major impact on future enzyme discovery for BVMOs and their synthetic applications.

This work developed a novel oxidized hierarchical porous carbon (OHPC) with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls via a method of air oxidation and used as an efficient adsorbent for Congo red (CR) and Malachite green (MG) removal. Results show that the OHPC2 oxidized at 400 °C possesses three-dimensional hierarchical pores with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls. The prepared OHPC2 not only has a large specific surface area of 1020 m g with a high pore volume, but also has abundant oxygen-containing functional groups.

This work examined the effects of molecular weight (2-15 kDa) and concentration (10-30 mg/mL) of chitosan (CTS) on the binding capacity and interface behavior between octenyl succinic acid sodium starch (OSS) and CTS, as well as their effects on the storage stability of emulsions. The results of the isothermal calorimetry titration demonstrated that OSS and CTS were complexed by electrostatic interaction and spontaneous hydrogen bonding driven by enthalpy (ΔH from -3931 to -7983 cal/mol, ΔS from -38.5 to -49.

Human succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase is a mitochondrial enzyme fundamental in the neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid catabolism. It catalyzes the NAD-dependent oxidative degradation of its derivative, succinic semialdehyde, to succinic acid. Mutations in its gene lead to an inherited neurometabolic rare disease, succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency, characterized by mental and developmental delay.

In this research, 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (MPS) silane agent was applied to modify the extracted wheat straw (WS) cellulose as a natural biopolymer. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) was attached to the MPS-modified WS (MPS-WS) via in-situ polymerization to form PAN-WS biocomposite. AO-WS amidoximated biocomposite adsorbent was synthesized through amidoxime reaction and the effects of different parameters including agitation speed, metal ion concentration, and adsorbent dosage on its efficiency of Pb(II) removal were investigated using the Taguchi experimental design method.

Luliconazole (LCZ) is a topical imidazole antifungal agent with broad-spectrum activity. However, LCZ encounters challenges such as low aqueous solubility, skin retention, and penetration, which reduce its dermal bioavailability and hinder its efficacy in drug delivery. The aim of the present study was to formulate, characterize, and evaluate the in vitro antifungal efficacy of luliconazole-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (LCZ-NLCs) against a panel of resistant fungal strains.
