In this study, an extended calculation method for the determination of the water profiles in oil-treated skin is proposed, which is based on the calculation of the ratio between the Raman band intensities of water (3350-3550 cm ) and keratin Amide I at 1650 cm . The proposed method is compared with the conventional method based on the ratio of the Raman band intensities of water (3350-3550 cm ) and keratin at 2930 cm . The conventional method creates artifacts in the depth profiles of the water concentration in oil-treated skin, showing a lower amount of water in the upper and intermediate layers of the stratum corneum, which is due to the superposition of oil- and keratin-related Raman bands at 2930 cm . The proposed extended method shows no artifacts and has the potential to determine the water depth profiles after topical application of formulations on the skin.

While Category Fluency (CF) is widely used to help profile semantic memory, item-level scoring (ILS) approaches to this test have been proposed to obtain indices that are less influenced by non-semantic supportive functions. We systematically reviewed the literature to test the hypotheses that (1) compared with healthy adults, individuals with a clinical diagnosis suggestive of neurodegeneration generate words of lower semantic complexity; (2) compared with young adults, older adults generate words of higher semantic complexity. We searched six databases (date of search: 8 December 2023) for studies that relied on CF and ILS methods, in normal ageing and in age-associated neurodegeneration.

As a diverse and complex food matrix, the animal food microbiota and repertoire of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes remain to be better understood. In this study, 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and shotgun metagenomics were applied to three types of animal food samples (cattle feed, dry dog food, and poultry feed). ZymoBIOMICS mock microbial community was used for workflow optimization including DNA extraction kits and bead-beating conditions.

The serum nanoparticle-protein corona (NPC) provides specific disease information, thus opening a new avenue for high-throughput in-depth proteomics to facilitate biomarker discovery. Yet, little is known about the interactions between NPs and proteins, and its role in enhanced depth of serum proteomics. Herein, a series of protein spike-in experiments are conducted to systematically investigate protein depletion and enrichment during NPC formation.

The efficacy of cancer immunotherapy is significantly influenced by the heterogeneity of individual tumors and immune responses. To investigate this phenomenon, a microfluidic platform is constructed for profiling immune-cancer cell interactions at the single-cell proteomics level for the first time. Based on the platform, a comprehensive workflow is proposed for achieving accurate single-cell pairing of an immune cell and a cancer cell with low cell damage and high success rate up to 95%, cell pair co-culture, and real-time microscopic monitoring of the cell-pair interactions, cell pair retrieval, mass spectrometry-based proteomic analysis of singe cell pairs, and decoupling of the proteomic information for each cell within the cell pair with the stable-isotope labeling method.

Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma is a common problem among tobacco chewers and related products in developing countries like India. Histopathological examination evaluates and confirms the diagnosis of oral SCC. Clinical examination and molecular profiling by histopathological examination (HPE) are important prognostic tools used in clinical practice.
