In this study, we modeled the effects of flaws in a solid material as three different slit types (rectangular, rectilinear, and semicircular) and their orientations in a duralumin (aluminum alloy) plate in simulations based on 137Cs gamma backscattering. The simulations were performed using the Monte Carlo GEANT4 simulation toolkit. The simulation results showed that the shape of the slit had a small effect on the backscattering peak curve. Rotating the slit on the Y-axis and Z-axis of the duralumin plate influenced the 137Cs backscattering peak height in the energy range from 0.185 to 0.20 MeV, where the backscattering peak areas exhibited specific patterns due to the slit orientations.

Radiation Damage Mitigation in FeCrAl Alloy at Sub-Recrystallization Temperatures.

Traditional defect recovery methods rely on high-temperature annealing, often exceeding 750 °C for FeCrAl. In this study, we introduce electron wind force (EWF)-assisted annealing as an alternative approach to mitigate irradiation-induced defects at significantly lower temperatures. FeCrAl samples irradiated with 5 MeV Zr ions at a dose of 10 cm were annealed using EWF at 250 °C for 60 s.

This study investigates the effect of pre-deformation by cold rolling after solution annealing on the microstructure and properties of the fine-grained Al-Li alloy 2A97. Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize grain boundaries, dislocations, precipitates and calculate their contribution to strength. It is found that the changes in precipitation behavior predominantly account for the enhanced tensile properties observed in the deformed alloys, where yield and tensile strengths are increased by 85 MPa and 63 MPa, respectively.

Introduction: To determine whether severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection affects corneal morphology and optical quality.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, ophthalmological indicators were examined during the peak of SARS-CoV-2 infection after adjusting for public health control measures. Participants were divided into control (remained uninfected), A (infected during follow-up), and B (infected prior to the first consultation) groups.

Frequency modulation of narrow-linewidth lasers can cause coherent backscattering in cladding-pumped fiber amplifiers. This detrimental effect can be observed in Tm-based fiber amplifiers and can be an additional limitation for power scaling applications. We investigate such instabilities in Tm- and Tm/Ho-doped fiber amplifiers for a wide range of design parameters (active fiber length, pumping scheme, dopant type) and operation regimes (laser frequency tuning rate, amplifier gain).
