Objective: To investigate miR-524-5p expression in gastric cancer (GC) tissues and the regulatory mechanism of miR-524-5p on biological behaviors of GC cell lines, such as proliferation, cell apoptosis and cycle.

Materials And Methods: The expression of miR-524-5p was detected in 48 paired of GC tissue samples and matched adjacent tissues, and also detected in GC cell lines by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Using miR-524-5p mimics, we analyzed the effects of overexpressed miR-524-5p on cell proliferation, cell apoptosis and cycle. Bioinformatics analysis, dual-luciferase activity assay and Western blot were recruited to validate the potential target gene of miR-524-5p.

Results: The expression of miR-524-5p was significantly decreased in GC tissue samples and cell lines. Increased miR-524-5p in GC cells significantly decreased cell proliferation capacity, promoted cell apoptosis and induced cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase, while decreased miR-524-5p exerted the opposite effects. Dual-luciferase, qRT-PCR and Western blot confirmed CASP3 as a target gene of miR-524-5p. Furthermore, recovery of CASP3 expression attenuated the suppressive effect of miR-524-5p on cell growth.

Conclusions: MiR-524-5p participates in the development of GC via regulating CASP3, which might provide a new prospect for GC diagnosis and therapy.

Objective: Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Protein kinase B (AKT) protein is associated with many pathways in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), such as proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis. Mushrooms have a long history of being used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases.

Doxorubicin (DOX) is a powerful antineoplastic FDA-approved anthracycline-derived antibiotic and is considered as the most suitable intervention for solid tumors and hematological cancers therapy. However, its therapeutic application is highly limited due to acute and chronic renal, hematological and testicular toxicity. Oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation and apoptosis in germ cells as well as low sperm count, motility and disturbing steroidogenesis are the principal machineries of DOX-induced testicular toxicity.

Copper (Cu) dysregulation, often stemming from ATP7B gene mutations, exacerbates neurological disorders like Huntington's, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's diseases. Monoisoamyl 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (MiADMSA) shows promise in mitigating Cu induced neurotoxicity by chelating intracellular Cu ions, reducing oxidative stress, and restoring antioxidant enzyme function. However, challenges such as poor bioavailability hinder its therapeutic efficacy.

Recent findings have indicated that the deficiency of inhibitory programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) and galectin-9 (Gal-9) in pancreatic β-cells is associated with the progression of type 1 diabetes (T1D). This suggests that exogenous PD-L1 and Gal-9 may have promising potential as therapeutics for the treatment of T1D. In light of these reports, a recent work investigated the potential of artificial extracellular vesicles (aEVs) with the presentation of PD-L1 and Gal-9 ligands (PD-L1-Gal-9 aEVs) as a treatment for T1D, with the findings published in .

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy represents a breakthrough for the treatment of hematological malignancies. However, to treat solid tumors and certain hematologic cancers, next-generation CAR-T cells require further genetic modifications to overcome some of the current limitations. Improving manufacturing processes to preserve cell health and function of edited T cells is equally critical.
