Ultrasmall and uniform tetrahedral-shaped YOF:Yb,Er upconversion nanophosphors (UCNs) are synthesized and sub-10 nm YOF:Yb,Er/YOF core/shell UCNs are formed via YOF:Yb,Er seed-mediated synthesis. The ultrasmall YOF:Yb,Er/YOF core/shell UCNs realize intense red emission under near infrared light (λ = 980 nm).

Activation of the ion channel transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), which is integral to pain perception, leads to an expansion of channel width, facilitating the passage of cations and large organic molecules. However, the permeability of TRPV1 channels to water remains uncertain, owing to a lack of suitable tools to study water dynamics. Here, using upconversion nanophosphors to discriminate between HO and DO, by monitoring water permeability across activated TRPV1 at the single-cell and single-molecule levels, and by combining single-channel current measurements with molecular dynamics simulations, we show that water molecules flow through TRPV1 and reveal a direct connection between water migration, cation flow and TRPV1 functionality.

Fingerprint patterns (or epidermal ridges) are by far one of the most reliable techniques for individual identification. Fingerprint patterns get deposited on all kinds of solid surfaces due to human transudation or exudation process. Bodily fluids through sweat glands contain moisture, natural oils and proteins.

This study investigates the synthesis and characterization of KSrVO phosphors doped with Er ions using combustion synthesis route by using urea as a fuel. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the orthorhombic phase and nano-scale crystallite size of around 21 nm, while transmission electron microscopy showed spherical and rod-shaped morphologies. The studies detected upconversion emission spectra at 526, 542 and 643 nm, representing green and red transitions under 980 nm excitation.

Liquid crystalline materials have attracted significant attention in chiroptical research due to their ability to form long range ordered helical superstructures. Research focus has been on exploiting the unique properties of liquid crystalline materials to demonstrate highly dissymmetric circularly polarised luminescent (CPL) systems. In this study, we present a thermally driven, facile approach to fabricate CPL-active materials utilizing cholesteryl benzoate as the active substrate.
