Doxorubicin (DOX) is an effective anti-tumor drug widely used in clinics. Hernandezine (HER), isolated from a Chinese medicinal herb, has a selective inhibitory effect on DOX multidrug resistance, making DOX more effective in treating cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the interaction of HER and DOX on pharmacokinetics. Male Sparague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: a single DOX group, a single HER group, and a combination group. Plasma concentrations of DOX and HER were determined by the LC-MS/MS method at specified time points after administration, and the main pharmacokinetic parameters were estimated. The results showed that there were significant differences in the C and AUC of DOX in the single drug group and combined drug group, indicating that HER could improve the absorption of DOX. However, DOX in combination, in turn, reduced the free drug concentration of HER, possibly because DOX enhanced the HER drug-protein binding effect. The results could be used as clinical guidance for DOX and HER to avoid adverse reactions.

Purpose: Doxorubicin (Dox) is a classic anthracycline chemotherapy drug with cause cumulative and dose-dependent cardiotoxicity. This study aimed to investigate the potential role and molecular mechanism of phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln), a novel gut microbiota metabolite, in Dox-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC).
Methods: DIC models were established in vivo and in vitro, and a series of experiments were performed to verify the cardioprotective effect of PAGln.

Magnetic microrobots are significant platforms for targeted drug delivery, among which sperm-inspired types have attracted much attention due to their flexible undulation. However, mass production of sperm-like soft magnetic microrobots with high-speed propulsion is still challenging due to the need of more reasonable structure design and facile fabrication. Herein, a novel strategy is proposed for large-scale preparation of microalgae-based soft microrobots with a fully magnetic head-to-tail structure, called AlgaeSperm with robust propulsion and chemo-photothermal performance.

A radiopaque hydrogel-in-liposome (RHL) system was developed for micro-computed tomography (μCT) imaging of tumor tissue and simultaneous delivery of a cytotoxic agent. Iopamidol (IPD) and doxorubicin (DOX) were incorporated as the CT contrast and anti-cancer agents, respectively. The presence of a polyethylene glycol hydrogel core in the liposomes was confirmed via attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and selective solvent extraction.

Common treatment approaches for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) are associated with severe side effects due to the unfavorable biodistribution profile of potent chemotherapeutics. Here, we explored the potential of TNBC-targeting aptamer-decorated porous silicon nanoparticles (pSiNPs) as targeted nanocarriers for TNBC. A "salt-aging" strategy was employed to fabricate a TNBC-targeting aptamer functionalized pSiNP that was highly colloidally stable.

The colon possesses a unique physiological environment among human organs, where there is a highly viscous body fluid layer called the mucus layer above colonic epithelial cells. Dysfunction of the mucus layer not only contributes to the occurrence of colorectal cancer (CRC) but also plays an important role in the development of chemoresistance in CRC. Although viscosity is an essential property of the mucus layer, it remains elusive how viscosity affects chemoresistance in colon cancer cells.
