Gamma delta (γδ) T cells constitute a major lymphocyte population in peripheral blood and epithelial surfaces. They play nonredundant roles in host defense against diverse pathogens. Although γδ T cells share functional features with other cells of the immune system, their distinct methods of antigen recognition, rapid response, and tissue tropism make them a unique effector population. This review considers the current state of our knowledge on γδ T cell biology in ruminants and the important roles played by this nonconventional T cell population in protection against several infectious diseases of veterinary and zoonotic importance.

Upper Limit on the Photoproduction Cross Section of the Spin-Exotic π_{1}(1600).

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, Newport News, Virginia 23606, USA.

The spin-exotic hybrid meson π_{1}(1600) is predicted to have a large decay rate to the ωππ final state. Using 76.6  pb^{-1} of data collected with the GlueX detector, we measure the cross sections for the reactions γp→ωπ^{+}π^{-}p, γp→ωπ^{0}π^{0}p, and γp→ωπ^{-}π^{0}Δ^{++} in the range E_{γ}=8-10  GeV.

An elevated level of saturated fatty acids (SFAs) can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). While n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) were shown to improve NAFLD, the effects of n-6 PUFAs in the liver have not been fully elucidated. We examined the association between NAFLD and n-6 PUFAs, particularly dihomo-γ-linolenic acid (DGLA), in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Enantioselective Borylcupration/Cyclization of Alkene-Tethered Oxime Esters.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

University of Toronto, Dept. of Chemistry, 80 St. George Street, M5S 3H6, Toronto, CANADA.

A copper-catalyzed enantioselective synthesis of borylated 1-pyrrolines from γ,δ-unsaturated oxime esters is reported. Twenty-four novel 1-pyrroline derivatives are reported in yields ranging from 26% to 96% and enantioselectivities from 74.5:25.

Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI), a subset of acute coronary syndrome, remains the major cause of mortality worldwide. Mitochondrial dysfunction is critically involved in AMI progression, and mitophagy plays a vital role in eliminating damaged mitochondria. This study aimed to explore mitophagy-related biomarkers and their potential molecular basis in AMI.

Unexpected amine-triggered skeletal modification of fascaplysin and its derivatives: rapid access to δ,γ-biscarbolines.

Org Biomol Chem

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Discovery and Utilization of Functional Components in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guizhou Medical University, Guiyang 550014, China.

An unsuccessful attempt to directly construct alkaloid iheyamine A from a fascaplysin framework resulted in the discovery of a novel synthetic approach to alkylated δ,γ-biscarboline derivatives. With the easy-to-operate reaction conditions of this protocol, 18 alkylated biscarbolines have been prepared in moderate to good yields. An unexpected domino transformation was proposed to involve a pyridinium ring-opening/aza-electrocyclization/oxidative deformylation sequence.
