BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine elicits robust virus-specific antibodies but poor cross-protective CD8 memory T cell responses in adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

J Microbiol Immunol Infect

January 2025

Institute of Clinical Medicine, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, 70101, Taiwan; Department of Pediatrics, National Cheng Kung University Hospital, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, 70101, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Background: COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have demonstrated 95 % efficacy in the general population. However, their immunogenicity in adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), who exhibit weaken immune responses, remains insufficiently explored.

Methods: Longitudinal analysis of innate immune responses following PRR-agonists and BNT162b2 vaccine stimulations, along with S-specific antibody responses, memory T cell recall responses, and RNA-sequencing were assessed in eight T1D adolescents and 16 healthy controls at six different timepoints.

Efficacy of pembrolizumab in microsatellite-stable, tumor mutational burden-high metastatic colorectal cancer: genomic signatures and clinical outcomes.

ESMO Open

January 2025

Department of Hematology, Oncology, and Cardiovascular Medicine, Kyushu University Hospital, Fukuoka, Japan; Department of Comprehensive Oncology, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. Electronic address:

Background: Pembrolizumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI), shows significant survival benefits in patients with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), but its efficacy in microsatellite-stable (MSS) mCRC is limited. Although ICIs are effective in tumor mutational burden-high (TMB-H) solid tumors, the impact on MSS-TMB-H mCRC, a rare subset within MSS mCRC, remains unclear.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis using clinical and genomic data from the Center for Cancer Genomics and Advanced Therapeutics (C-CAT) repository in Japan.

Background: Patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD) are at increased risk of infection due to their impaired immune response, which also reduces vaccination efficacy. Although several studies have evaluated the serological response to SARS-CoV-2 mRNA-based vaccines in patients with ARD, limited information on immune responses to other vaccination platforms is available.

Aims: This observational prospective study aims to investigate the humoral immune response to different SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in patients with ARD.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) induces an imbalance in T helper (Th) 17/regulatory T (Treg) cells that contributes to of the dysregulation of inflammation. Exercise training can modulate the immune response in healthy subjects.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the effects of exercise training on Th17/Treg responses and the differentiation of Treg phenotypes in individuals with COPD.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been widely applicated for the treatment of patients with advanced esophageal cancer. Skin-related adverse reactions are frequent with ICIs, with toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) being a severe and potentially life-threatening cutaneous reaction.

Case Presentation: We present a case of a 70-year-old male with locally advanced esophageal cancer who developed severe toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) after 18 days of tislelizumab combined with chemotherapy.
