A method utilizing biopsy sized samples of lung for anionic charge site localization in alveolar and capillary basement membranes in human tissue is discussed. Tissue fixed in either paraformaldehyde-lysine-periodate or 1% paraformaldehyde with 0.05% glutaraldehyde, cut into 30 mu sections, and incubated with the cationic probe, polyethyleneimine, was processed for electron microscopic analysis using standard techniques. Anionic charge sites were identified and regularly distributed in increments of approximately 40-50 nm in the lamina rara externa of the alveolar basement membrane, with lesser amounts found in the lamina rara interna and lamina densa. Anionic charge sites were also demonstrated in the interstitial portion of the capillary basement membrane and on cell surfaces. These methods can be used to more broadly define the localization of anionic charge sites in human lung tissue in both normal and pathologic states.

The behavior of triple-cation mixed halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) under ultrashort laser pulse irradiation at varying fluences is investigated, with a focus on local heating effects observed in femtosecond transient absorption (TA) studies. The carrier cooling time constant is found to increase from 230 fs at 2 µJ cm⁻ to 1.3 ps at 2 mJ cm⁻ while the charge population decay accelerates from tens of nanoseconds to the picosecond range within the same fluence range.

Electrocatalysis in metal-organic frameworks is an interplay between the diffusion of charges, the intrinsic catalytic rate, and the mass-transport of reactants through the pores. Here a systematic study is carried out to investigate the role of the electrolyte nature and concentration on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) with the PCN-224(Co) MOF in aqueous electrolyte. It was found that the ORR activity is slightly influenced by the nature of the ions in solution, providing that the ionic strength is high enough to minimize the resistivity during the measurement.

An investigation of the low-frequency (i.e., less than 5 THz), inter-molecular dynamics of three imidazolium-based ionic liquids-1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([C4mim][NTf2]), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([C4mim][DCA]), and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([C2mim][DCA])-is presented using two-dimensional (2D) Raman-THz spectroscopy combined with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.

Photocatalytic degradation of the azo dye orange II using NdVO/VO/BiVO under visible light is reported here, and this oxygen-rich defect three-phase heterojunction structure is constructed using a two-step cation exchange method. This heterojunction significantly enhances the separation and migration efficiency of photo-induced charges, while the accompanying oxygen defects effectively capture photogenerated electrons, thereby suppressing the recombination of electrons and holes. Experimental characterization and theoretical calculations demonstrate the efficient separation and transfer capabilities of photogenerated carriers and their excellent photocatalytic degradation performance.

Tetrahedral halides with broad transparency and large second harmonic effects have the potential to serve as mid-infrared wide-bandgap materials with balanced nonlinear-optical (NLO) properties. However, their regular tetrahedral motifs tend to exhibit low optical birefringence (Δ < 0.03) due to limited structural anisotropy, which constrains their practical phase-matched capability.
