One of the main consequences of glucose action on pancreatic β-cells is the stimulation of Ca entry as well as Ca release from intracellular compartments. Therefore, one of the cornerstones of any diabetes research laboratory should be the ability to measure changes in intracellular calcium concentrations within pancreatic β-cells. There are a variety of methods available for the measurement of intracellular calcium, from multiple regions of interest (ROIs) within single cells to observe oscillating calcium, to population-based 96-well applications to enable high-throughput screening of the effects of novel agonists. These methods allow calcium signaling to be observed in a single cellular assay to look at oscillations at a cellular level, to view a population response, and to enable high-throughput assays where the mean reflects a single cell response.

Calcium (Ca) is a universal signaling cation with a prominent role as second messenger in many different plant processes, including sexual reproduction. However, there is much less knowledge about the involvement of Ca during embryogenesis processes. In this work we performed a study of Ca levels during the different stages of microspore embryogenesis in , with special attention to how Ca can influence the occurrence of different embryogenic structures with different embryogenic potential.

The controllable regulation of immune and osteogenic processes plays a critical role in the modification of biocompatible materials for tissue regeneration. In this study, titanium dioxide-europium coatings (MAO/Eu) were prepared on the surface of a titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) a one-step process combining microarc oxidation (MAO) and doping. The incorporation of Eu significantly improved the hydrophilic and mechanical properties of the TiO coatings without altering their morphology.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The pathogenesis of alcoholic gastric injury has long been a significant topic in the medical field. Dan-Shen-Yin (DSY), a classic traditional Chinese medicine formula, has been shown to alleviate gastric mucosal injury and to treat stomachaches in clinical settings. However, the mechanism by which DSY against alcoholic gastric injury requires further investigation.

The mammalian Hippo kinases, MST1 and MST2, regulate organ development and suppress tumor formation by balancing cell proliferation and death. In macrophages, inflammasomes detect molecular patterns from invading pathogens or damaged host cells and trigger programmed cell death. In addition to lytic pyroptosis, the signatures associated with apoptosis are induced by inflammasome activation, but how the inflammasomes coordinate different cell death processes remains unclear.
