Synthesis, Purification, and Physical Properties of Seven Twelve-Carbon Hydrocarbons.

As part of a program to determine accurately the heats of combustion of specialized fuels in the kerosene range, seven hydrocarbons, biphenyl, bicyclohexyl, cyclohexylbenzene, -hexylbenzene, -hexylcyclohexane, 1-cyclopentylheptane, and -dodecane were synthesized or purified from commercial material. Physical constants were determined on the purified samples. These materials may have use as secondary standards for heat of combustion measurements.
