Objectives: species have various pharmacological properties, including antioxidant activity. In this study, the effects of extract (PTE) on histopathology and antioxidant enzymes in the rat liver and kidney were examined.
Materials And Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to three groups; (1) normal diet fed group, (2) ascorbic acid-containing diet-fed group as a positive control, (3) PTE-containing diet-fed group. The histopathology in the rat liver and kidney was examined by hematoxylin and eosin staining. The effect of PTE was examined in the rat liver and kidney by immunohistochemistry for antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutases (SOD1 and SOD2), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx).
Results: No marked histopathological alterations were observed in the liver and kidney of the PTE-containing diet-fed group. In the liver, the mean numbers of SOD1, SOD2, CAT, and GPx immunoreactive cells were significantly increased in the PTE-containing diet-fed rats, compared with those in the normal- and ascorbic acid-containing diet-fed rats. In the kidney, all SOD1, SOD2, CAT, and GPx immunoreactive structures were significantly increased in the PTE-containing diet-fed group, compared with those in the normal- and ascorbic acid-containing diet-fed groups.
Conclusion: Results showed that PTE treatment significantly increased antioxidant enzymes in the rat liver and kidney, and we suggest that PTE might have hepato- and nephro-protective potentials against oxidative stress.

Certain miscellaneous beans have a low glycemic index (GI) and may reduce the risk of chronic metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes and obesity, by modulating postprandial glucose homeostasis and blood lipid levels. In this study, red kidney bean flour and wheat gluten were used as raw materials, and long-chain inulin phosphate monoester (PFXL) was added to improve the quality of red kidney bean dough, prepare high-quality steamed bread, and explore its health effect on type 2 diabetes. The results showed that the addition of PFXL improved the water distribution and rheological properties of coarse grain dough and enriched the flavor of coarse grain steamed bread.

As a traditional Chinese medicine for reinforcing kidney, Cuscutae semen can be applied in regulating the level of estrogen. And nine direct-acting substances in vivo with estrogenic effect has been figured out according to our previous research. However, their transformation relationship and the prototype forms of some metabolites are still not clear, impeding the elucidation of the effective substances of Cuscutae semen.

Organophosphate (OP) nerve agents, such as soman (GD), pose great risk to neurological health by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, leading to seizures, epilepsy, and behavioral deficits. While acute treatment may alleviate immediate symptoms, the long-term consequences, particularly those involving neuroinflammation and systemic toxicity, remain poorly understood. This study used adult male and female Sprague Dawley rats to investigate the chronic effects of a single acute exposure to soman (132 µg/kg, s.

Elevated fasting insulin levels (FI), indicative of altered insulin secretion and sensitivity, may precede type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease onset. In this study, we group FI-associated genetic variants based on their genetic and phenotypic similarities and identify seven clusters with distinct mechanisms contributing to elevated FI levels. Clusters fall into two types: "non-diabetogenic hyperinsulinemia," where clusters are not associated with increased T2D risk, and "diabetogenic hyperinsulinemia," where T2D associations are driven by body fat distribution, liver function, circulating lipids, or inflammation.

Background: The aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) is an effective non-invasive marker for chronic liver dysfunction. Given that heat stroke patients often suffer from poor prognosis due to multi-organ involvement, with liver injury and coagulation dysfunction being of particular concern, this study aims to investigate whether APRI can comprehensively reflect liver injury and coagulation dysfunction in heat stroke patients and explore its relationship with 28-day mortality.
Methods: This retrospective study analysed electronic medical records from patients treated at 57 grade A tertiary hospitals in China from May 2005 to May 2024.
