A successive approach to the solution of the inverse problem of the X-ray diffraction tomography (XRDT) is proposed. It is based on the semi-kinematical solution of the dynamical Takagi-Taupin equations for the σ-polarized diffracted wave amplitude. Theoretically, the case of the Coulomb-type point defect in a single crystal Si(111) under the exact conditions of the symmetric Laue diffraction for a set of the tilted X-ray topography 2D-images (2D projections) is considered provided that the plane-parallel sample is rotated around the diffraction vector [[Formula: see text]20]. The iterative simulated annealing (SA) and quasi-Newton gradient descent (qNGD) algorithm codes are used for a recovery of the 3D displacement-field function of the Coulomb-type point defect. The computer recovery data of the 3D displacement-field function related to the one XRDT 2D projection are presented. It is proved that the semi-kinematical approach to the solution of the dynamical Takagi-Taupin equations is effective for recovering the 3D displacement-field function even for the one XRDT 2D projection.

This study considers Timoshenko beam theory and the isogeometric analysis method to investigate the free vibration and buckling of axially functionally graded (AFG) tapered beams. The governing equations are obtained from the kinematic assumptions of Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton's principle. The isogeometric analysis approach is implemented to solve the motion equations.

In naval engineering, particular attention has been given to containerships, as these structures are constantly exposed to potential damage during service hours and since they are essential for large-scale transportation. To assess the structural integrity of these ships and to ensure the safety of the crew and the cargo being transported, it is essential to adopt structural health monitoring (SHM) strategies that enable real-time evaluations of a ship's status. To achieve this, this paper introduces an advancement in the field of smart sensing and SHM that improves ship monitoring and diagnostic capabilities.

We consider a half-filled Chern band and its transport properties in two phases that it may form: the electronic Fermi liquid and the composite-fermion Fermi liquid. For weak disorder, we show that the Hall resistivity for the former phase is very small, while for the latter it is close to 2h/e^{2}, independent of the distribution of the Berry curvature in the band. At rising temperature and high frequency, we expect the Hall resistivity of the electronic phase to rise, and that of the composite-fermion phase to deviate from 2h/e^{2}.

A search in Scopus within "Article title, Abstract, Keywords" unveils 2,444 documents focused on the biomechanics of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), mostly on AAA wall stress. Only 24 documents investigated AAA kinematics, an important topic that could potentially offer significant insights into the biomechanics of AAA. In this paper, we present an image-based approach for patient-specific, in vivo, and non-invasive AAA kinematic analysis using patient's time-resolved 3D computed tomography angiography (4D-CTA) images, with an objective to measure wall displacement and strain during the cardiac cycle.

The topological properties of gapped graphene have been explored for valleytronics applications. Prior transport experiments indicated their topological nature through large nonlocal resistance in Hall-bar devices, but the origin of this resistance was unclear. This study focused on dual-gate bilayer graphene (BLG) devices with naturally cleaved edges, examining how edge-etching with an oxygen plasma process affects electron transport.
