Normal values for spinal alignment are often based on the pelvic incidence (PI), defined as the angle subtended by a line from the bicoxofemoral axis to the midpoint of the sacral endplate and a line perpendicular to the midpoint. Despite widespread use, determinants of its values remain obscure. The aim of this study was to determine correlation of sacropelvic parameters with the PI on computed tomography (CT). CT scans performed for trauma were identified over a 1-year period. Patients aged over 16 were included. PI, sacral anatomic orientation, sacral table angle (STA), sacral kyphosis (SK), pelvic thickness (PTH), femorosacral pelvic angle, pelvisacral angle, and sacropelvic angle were measured. Additional novel measures including crest-to-pubis distance, crest-to-sacrum distance (CSD), inlet distance, outlet distance, and inlet-outlet angle were taken. One hundred and seventy-seven scans were analyzed. Mean age 44.3 years; 62% male. The mean PI was 50.1 (SD 10.8; range 29-87). SK (r = 0.769), inlet-outlet angle (r = -0.533), PTH (r = -0.370), CSD (r = 0.290), and STA (r = -0.276) significantly correlated with PI. Multivariate analysis developed a predictive equation of: PI = 101.45 - (0.52 × STA) + (0.67 × SK) - (0.34 × inlet-outlet angle), with an adjusted R 0.734 (P < 0.001). Measures that represent the sacral morphology, particularly SK, and the position of the sacrum in space correlated strongly with the PI and contributed strongly to a predictive equation. These findings may direct further efforts to explore how the PI is determined and therefore how it may be modified. Clin. Anat. 33:237-244, 2020. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Background: Specific pelvic bone dimensions have been identified as predictors of total mesorectal excision (TME) difficulty and outcomes. However, manual measurement of these dimensions (pelvimetry) is labor intensive and thus, anatomic criteria are not included in the pre-operative difficulty assessment. In this work, we propose an automated workflow for pelvimetry based on pre-operative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) volumes.

Electrodialysis desalination is constructed with a number of anion exchange membranes (AEM), cation exchange membranes (CEM), anode, cathode, adjacent silicon gasket integrated membrane spacers, and inlet/outlet holes per cell. At the boundary among an ionic solution and an ion exchange membrane, concentration polarization develops. Spacers placed in between channel's walls function as stream baffles to increase turbulence, improve heat and mass transfer, diminish the laminar boundary layer, and lessen fouling problems.

Purpose: Male sex, high BMI, narrow pelvis, and bulky mesorectum were acknowledged as clinical variables correlated with a difficult pelvic dissection in colorectal surgery. This paper aimed at comparing pelvic biometric measurements in female and male patients and at providing a perspective on how pelvimetry segmentation may help in visualizing mesorectal distribution.
Methods: A 3D software was used for segmentation of DICOM data of consecutive patients aged 60 years, who underwent elective abdominal CT scan.

Application of microfluidic systems for the study of cellular behaviors has been a flourishing area of research in the past decade. In the process of probing cell biomechanics the passage of a cell through a narrow microchannel or a small pore has attracted much attention during the recent years. And the study of cellular deformability and transportability using these systems with enhanced resolution and accuracy has opened a new paradigm for high-throughput characterization of both healthy and diseased cell populations.

Background: Pelvic inlet and outlet fluoroscopy views are routinely used in operative treatment of posterior pelvic ring injuries. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the angles of pelvic inlet and outlet fluoroscopic view, their differences with hip flexion and the correlation of these differences with sacral slope changes.
Materials And Methods: Sagittal reconstructions of 100 lumbopelvic CT were used to measure sacral slope, pelvic inlet and outlet view angles.
