Background: Erectile dysfunction is a condition with a rapidly increasing prevalence globally with a strong correlation to the increase in obesity and cardiovascular disease rates.

Aim: The aim of the current study is to investigate the potential role of tubacin, a histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) inhibitor, in restoring erectile function in a hypercholesterolemia-induced endothelial dysfunction model.

Methods: Thirty-nine male C57Bl/6 J mice were divided into 3 groups.

Potential beneficial impacts of tadalafil on cardiovascular diseases.

J Chin Med Assoc

January 2025

Department and Institute of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taipei, Taiwan, ROC.

Tadalafil is a selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor commonly used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of PDE5, leading to increased levels of nitric oxide and cyclic guanosine monophosphate in the corpus cavernosum, which facilitates smooth muscle relaxation. This article reviews studies using tadalafil in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and emphasizes its potential advantages in conditions such as pulmonary arterial hypertension, atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, heart failure, stroke, diabetic ulcers, and cardiomyopathy.

Background: Androgen deprivation is associated with erectile dysfunction (ED). In different animal models, sulfur dioxide (SO) donors NaSO and NaHSO reduced oxidative stress, fibrosis, and inflammation which contribute to the pathogenesis of androgen deprivation-induced ED, however the effect of SO donors on ED in castrated rats were not known.

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect of SO donors, NaSO/NaHSO, on ED in castrated rat model.

Background: We aimed to contribute to the literature by exploring the possible relationship of PV with erectile dysfunction (ED), as in atherosclerosis-based vascular diseases.

Methods: Between October 2021 and December 2022, 99 patients who applied to the urology polyclinic with a complaint of ED were included in the study (Group 1). Fifty-two patients who applied with a complaint other than ED constituted the control group (Group 2).

Paper-Based Aptasensor Assay for Detection of Food Adulterant Sildenafil.

Biosensors (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Medical Biology, School of Medicine, Atilim University, Ankara 06830, Turkey.

Sildenafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension but is often illicitly added to energy drinks and chocolates. This study introduces a lateral flow strip test using aptamers specific to sildenafil for detecting its illegal presence in food. The process involved using graphene oxide SELEX to identify high-affinity aptamers, which were then converted into molecular gate structures on mesoporous silica nanoparticles, creating a unique signaling system.
