Maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) is a frequent issue encountered during the administration of general anesthesia. This article aims to give an overview of MMF from a surgical perspective, complications that can arise from MMF, anesthesia management strategies in MMF cases, and perhaps most importantly, an overview of how to release a patient from MMF in an emergency. Although not encompassing all situations and variables, these topics are covered in a manner that can be easily incorporated into the anesthetist's practice.

Mandibular and maxillary fractures are common in small animals and present significant challenges for repair due to the intricate anatomical features involved. This retrospective case series describes a technique for achieving rigid open mouth maxillomandibular fixation using interarch wiring while maintaining correct alignment between the upper and lower teeth with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) moulds of the canine teeth for treating maxillomandibular fractures in cats. The study includes a description of the postoperative outcomes and complications encountered.

 Fractures of the condylar region of the mandible, although fairly common, also generate the most debate regarding management-both closed and open treatment options have been recommended and shown to yield good results. We present our experience with a minimal access retromandibular approach to fractures of the vertical mandible.  This is a retrospective study of all patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation for fractures of the vertical mandible (condyle, subcondylar region, ramus) using a retromandibular approach at a tertiary care hospital in a metropolitan city in India between January 2022 and July 2023.
