Introduction: Dermatan sulfate (DS) is well-known for its anticoagulant activity through binding to heparin cofactor II to enhance antithrombin action. It has also been suggested that DS has a profibrinolytic effect, although the exact molecular mechanism is as yet unknown.
Materials And Methods: An in vitro amidolytic method was used to study the effect of high and low molecular weight-DS on the activation of Glu and Lys-plasminogen by tissue and urinary plasminogen activators (t-PA and u-PA).

Purpose: To determine the optimal method of generating plasmin in vitreous using recombinant lysine-plasminogen and recombinant urokinase and to determine its efficacy in inducing posterior vitreous detachment when combined with sulfur hexafluoride.
Methods: Plasmin concentration of the rabbit vitreous after separate and combined intravitreal administrations of recombinant lysine-plasminogen and recombinant urokinase was tested in 78 rabbits to determine the optimal method of administration. The safety and efficacy of these agents and sulfur hexafluoride in inducing complete posterior vitreous detachment (total separation of the vitreous apart from vitreous base) were also evaluated.

Objective: Elevated levels of proteases are linked to the malignant phenotype in a wide variety of solid tumors. Therefore, the expression of plasminogen, matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9), and of the serine protease urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) in serous epithelial carcinoma of the ovary were investigated.
Methods: Plasminogen antigen was analyzed in tissue extracts and in the urine of patients with normal (n = 12), benign (n = 6), borderline (n = 9), and invasive serous tumors (n = 22) by Western immunoblotting using rabbit polyclonal plasminogen and murine monoclonal angiostatin antibodies.

Background: To evaluate the effect of occlusion type and fibrinolytic agent on recanalization success and clinical outcome in patients undergoing local intra-arterial fibrinolysis (LIF) in acute hemispheric stroke.
Methods: LIF was performed in 137 patients with angiographically established occlusion in the carotid circulation within 6 h of stroke onset. Retrospective analysis included recanalization success, recanalization time, type of occlusion and fibrinolytic treatment mode.
