Fibro-osseous lesions of the sinonasal tract: a contemporary review.

Curr Opin Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg

October 2024

Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA.

Purpose Of Review: Fibro-osseous lesions (FOL) are benign, slow-growing lesions that are often incidentally discovered in the sinonasal cavity. They may necessitate surgical resection in patients with postobstructive sinusitis, or in cases of cranial nerve and orbital compression. We examine the recent advancements in otolaryngology relating to diagnostic characteristics and treatments for FOL, with emphasis on new technologies to improve outcomes and reduce recurrence.

Updates in palliative care of gynecologic oncology patients.

Curr Opin Obstet Gynecol

October 2024

Department of Medicine, Palliative Care, University of California at Los Angeles, Los Angeles CA, USA.

Purpose Of Review: This review assesses the impact of early integration of palliative care and the disparities that exist among patients with gynecologic malignancies. It also highlights the recent advances in symptom management, goals of care communication, and end of life care.

Recent Findings: Although palliative care has been utilized earlier, there are still barriers to its integration both nationally and worldwide, manifesting as predominantly late hospice referrals and aggressive care at the end of life.

Introduction: Chorea is a motor manifestation of Huntington's disease (HD), which can lead to decreased functional independence and falls. Even though multiple classes of medications have been used to treat this symptom, only the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitors tetrabenazine, deutetrabenazine, and valbenazine have been approved by the FDA for this indication.

Areas Covered: This article reviews the pharmacological properties, clinical efficacy, safety, and tolerability of valbenazine in the treatment of chorea in HD.

Characterisation of an indeterminate ovarian mass is important as it guides management and clinical outcomes. Ultrasound is the first-line modality in the assessment of ovarian tumours. When ovarian masses are indeterminate on ultrasound, MRI provides excellent resolution in tissue characterisation and enhancement patterns.

Spectroscopy and Dynamics of the Dipole-Bound States of -, -, and -Methylphenolate Anions.

J Phys Chem A

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, KAIST, Daejeon 34141, Republic of Korea.

A photodetachment and photoelectron spectroscopic study by employing a cryogenically cooled ion trap combined with a velocity-map imaging setup has been carried out to unravel the vibrational structures and autodetachment dynamics of the dipole-bound states (DBSs) of -, -, and -methylphenolate anions (-, -, and -CHPhO). The electron binding energy of the DBS increases monotonically with the increase of the neutral dipole moment to give respective values of 66 ± 15, 123 ± 18, or 154 ± 14 cm for the -, -, or -isomer. The different electron-donating effects of the methyl moieties in the three geometrically different isomers seem to be reflected in the experiment.
