Routine posteroanterior and lateral chest radiographs in 268 patients were analyzed to determine heart size--normal, cardiomegaly, or specific chamber enlargement--using specified radiographic criteria for enlargement. The accuracy of this determination was compared with a specific ventricular mass derived from a postmortem cardiac chamber partition technique. The data indicate that in the majority of cases (greater than 70%) a normal-sized heart or cardiomegaly can be correctly determined from the chest x-ray either by the subjective criteria of chamber enlargement or by measurement of the transverse diameter. The use of the chest x-ray, however, for evaluation of specific ventricular chamber enlargement is a less accurate determination, and results are compromised.

Background: Hypoxia is associated with the onset of cardiovascular diseases including cardiac hypertrophy and pulmonary hypertension. HIF2 (hypoxia-inducible factor 2) signaling in the endothelium mediates pulmonary arterial remodeling and subsequent elevation of the right ventricular systolic pressure during chronic hypoxia. Thus, novel therapeutic opportunities for pulmonary hypertension based on specific HIF2 inhibitors have been proposed.

To analyze the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric myocardial infarction (MI) patients with coronary artery lesions (CAL) after Kawasaki disease (KD). Clinical data including baseline characteristics, KD and CAL information, clinical symptoms at MI onset, electrocardiogram (ECG) and imaging findings, MI treatment, and clinical outcomes of 41 MI patients with CAL after KD admitted to the Children's Hospital of Fudan University from January 2017 to August 2024 were analyzed retrospectively. (1) Demographic characteristics: a total of 41 patients were included (36 males and 5 females).

Background: Insulin resistance (IR) plays a pivotal role in the interplay between metabolic disorders and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Various non-insulin-based indices emerge as reliable surrogate markers for assessing IR, including the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, the TyG index with body mass index (TyG-BMI), atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), and the metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR). However, the ability of different IR indices to predict outcome in HFpEF patients has not been extensively explored.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an endogenous gasotransmitter with cardioprotective and antiviral effects. In this work, new cysteine-selective nucleoside-HS-donor hybrid molecules were prepared by conjugating nucleoside biomolecules with a thiol-activatable dithioacetyl group. 5'-Dithioacetate derivatives were synthesized from the canonical nucleosides (uridine, adenosine, cytidine, guanosine and thymidine), and the putative 5'-thio metabolites were also produced from uridine and adenosine.

KW-2449 is a novel multitargeted kinase inhibitor that has been reported to alleviate chronic inflammation and altered immunity during the treatment of autoimmune diseases. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of KW-2449 on sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC). A rat model of moderate SIC was induced using the cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) method.
