Background: In people with substance use disorders (SUDs), stress-exposure can impair executive function, and increase craving and likelihood of drug-use recurrence. Research shows that acute stressors increase drug-seeking behavior; however, mechanisms underlying this effect are incompletely understood. The Competing Neurobehavioral Decisions System theory posits that persons with SUDs may have hyperactive limbic reward circuitry and hypoactive executive control circuitry.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disorder characterized by several behavioral impairments, especially in socialization, communication, and the occurrence of stereotyped behaviors. In rats, prenatal exposure to valproic acid (VPA) induces autistic-like behaviors. Previous studies by our group have suggested that the autistic-like phenotype is possibly related to dopaminergic system modulation because tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) expression was affected.

Bremelanotide, trade name Vyleesi, has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration to treat HSDD. We describe a rare but interesting complication of totally endoscopic robotic mitral valve repair in a patient with severe mitral regurgitation. The mitral valve was repaired robotically by standard techniques, and the intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram demonstrated no residual mitral regurgitation. However, there was unexpected hypokinesia of the posterior and lateral walls of the left ventricle, with subsequent electrocardiography showing acute ST elevations of the lateral segment.
