Published: September 2019

A multidrug-resistant strain R17 was isolated from a wastewater treatment plant in China. Whole-genome sequencing of strain R17 revealed a new sequence type (ST412) chromosome (length 5,124,258 bp) and an Inc FII (Yp) group plasmid pCFR17_1 (length 206,820 bp). A total of 13 antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) that confer resistance to eight different antibiotic groups were encoded by strain R17 and 12 of them were carried by plasmid pCFR17_1. These data and analysis suggest that the environment-derived strains may serve as potential sources of ARGs and highlight the need of further surveillance of this bacteria in the future.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of conversion (%), flexural strength (MPa), elastic modulus (GPa), compressive strength (MPa), Knoop microhardness (KHN), post-gel shrinkage (%) and prediction of ideal concentration of cholesteryl methacrylate (CM) in experimental resins.

Methods: Four formulations were manipulated (F): F1, control group, (0 % CM); F2 (15 % CM); F3 (19.8 % CM) and F4 (30 % CM).

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers used single-domain nanobodies from camels to target a specific enzyme (β-1,3-glucanosyltransferases) crucial for fungal survival, revealing important structural insights.
  • * The tested nanobody showed strong antifungal effects in laboratory settings and in animal models, particularly against certain strains of C. neoformans, suggesting it could be a promising avenue for developing new antifungal therapies.

Background: Ensiling technology holds promise for preserving and providing high-quality forage. However, the preservation of rice straw poses challenges due to its high lignocellulosic content and low water-soluble carbohydrate levels. Developing highly effective lactic acid bacteria (LAB) for rice straw silage remains a priority.

Biopolymers play a significant role in tissue engineering, including in the formulation of bioinks that require careful selection of the biopolymers having properties ideal for printability and supporting biological entities such as cells. Alginate is one of the most widely explored natural biopolymers for tissue engineering applications due to its biocompatibility, cross-linking ability, hydrophilic nature, and easy incorporation with other polymers. Here, a succinoglycan-like exopolysaccharide (EPS-R17) produced by a bacterial strain Rhizobium sp.
