AI Article Synopsis

  • The health and well-being of people with disabilities (PWD) should be prioritized in strategies aimed at reducing health disparities and achieving health equity, as current approaches often overlook this demographic.
  • The discussion emphasizes the need to address structural injustices affecting PWD, advocating for equitable participation in life opportunities aligned with their abilities and desires.
  • The capabilities approach, proposed by Amartya Sen, is suggested as a framework to guide nursing practice, research, and policy, promoting social justice for PWD.

Article Abstract

Problem: Improving the health and well-being of people with disabilities (PWD) should be included https://plato.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/encyclopedia/archinfo.cgi?entry=justice-distributivein any strategies aimed at eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity in the United States. However, practitioners and policymakers often overlook disability when considering health equity. This is problematic because structural injustices including social and environmental barriers frequently worsen health for PWD. A commitment to social justice, however, dictates that everyone should have equitable opportunities to participate in chosen aspects of life to the best of their abilities and desires.

Methods: We use a critical commentary to provide suggestions for the nursing discipline. Specifically, we 1) position the disparities in health and well-being experienced by PWD as matters of equity and social justice, 2) describe Amartya Sen's capabilities approach, and 3) provide suggestions for incorporating tenets of the capabilities approach into nursing practice, research, and policy.

Conclusion: The capabilities approach can provide a useful framework to guide nursing practice, research, and policy in order to advance social justice for PWD.

Significance: Pulse oximeter measurements are commonly relied upon for managing patient care and thus often require human testing before they can be legally marketed. Recent clinical studies have also identified disparities in their measurement of blood oxygen saturation by race or skin pigmentation.

Aim: The development of a reliable bench-top performance test method based on tissue-simulating phantoms has the potential to facilitate pre-market assessment and the development of more accurate and equitable devices.

This qualitative research sought to identify factors influencing patient choice of, and patient-related internal and external enablers and barriers to engagement with, type 2 diabetes (T2D) remission strategies offered by the Remission in diabetes (REMI.D) project. Patients had a choice of three diets: Total Diet Replacement (TDR)-Formula Food Products, TDR-Food, and Healthy lifestyle approach; and three activity pathways: Everyday life, General Practitioner referral, and Social hub.

In recent times, graph representation learning has been becoming a hot research topic which has attracted a lot of attention from researchers. Graph embeddings have diverse applications across fields such as information and social network analysis, bioinformatics and cheminformatics, natural language processing (NLP), and recommendation systems. Among the advanced deep learning (DL) based architectures used in graph representation learning, graph neural networks (GNNs) have emerged as the dominant and highly effective framework.

Lead (Pb) ions give an imminent danger since they have been known to cause persistent damage to humans, plants, and animals, even at low concentrations, and cysteine (Cys) elevated levels are critical indicators for many diseases. Therefore, their detection is critical in pharmaceutical and environmental samples. This study tailored an innovative fluorescence switch off-on assay to detect Pb and Cys based on the amplification of G-quadruplex (G-4) to N-methylmesoporphyrin IX (NMM).

Methylene blue (MB) contamination has become a significant environmental issue due to its widespread presence in industrial effluents, posing serious threats to ecosystems and human health. As a result, there is an urgent need for the development of novel adsorbent materials that can effectively remove these pollutants from water sources. In this context, the present study focuses on the design and synthesis of two coordination polymers (CPs) containing Zn(II) and Mn(II), namely, {[Mn(L)(tib)]·4HO} (1) and [Zn(L)(3,5-bibp)] (2), using a combined-ligand approach under solvothermal conditions.
