To monitor radiocesium activity in skeletal muscle of live cattle, the animals were given radiocesium-contaminated feed continuously, then switched to contamination-free feed after radiocecium concentration in peripheral blood (PB) reached plateau. Radioactivity in skeletal muscles of neck and rump was measured by attaching the probe of a NaI survey meter closely on the body surface just above the muscle of the live cattle (external measurement). We validated the strong positive correlation between the value of the external measurement and radiocesium activity concentration of dissected muscle (r = 0.89, < 0.001 for neck; r = 0.80, < 0.001 for rump). Accumulation of radiocesium both in muscle and PB was proportional to the total amount of radiocesium cattle ingested. However, radioactivity concentration in PB was constant in the cattle that had continuously ingested radiocesium, lower than 2.0 × 10 Bq in total within 67 days from the beginning of radiocesium intake. In addition, the ratio of radiocesium activity in muscle to that in PB was lower during the time when radiocontaminated feed was ingested than that of contamination-free feed ingestion. Using the correlation of radioactivity between muscle and PB, we confirmed that a majority of the cattle in the ex-evacuation zone of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, from 167 to 365 days after the accident occurred, were in the declining period of radiocesium intake.

Unlabelled: The impact of the environment on human health in modern conditions cannot be underestimated. The study of thepathogenesis of disease is impossible without establishing the factors of destabilization of biological membranes. The article highlighted the problem of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant defense associated with the accumulationof radiocesium in the placenta.

Objective: Scientific justification of the methodology for calculating radiation internal doses from 137Cs and 134Cs intake for residents of Ukrainian settlements radioactively contaminated as a result of the Chornobyl (Chernobyl) accident in which measurements of incorporated radiocesium isotopes in humans using whole-body counters (WBC) were not carried out.
Materials And Methods: The paper presents a new methodology for reconstructing doses due to internal irradiation from Chornobyl fallout for both surface (in 1986) and root (in 1987-2023) contamination of vegetation with 137Cs and 134Cs and their transfer into the human body. The methodology for calculating the dose due to surface contamination of vegetation was based on the theoretical model of the transfer of radiocesium isotopes through the food chain with further adjustment of this model to the results of WBC measurements carried out between 15 July and 31 December 1986.

This study measured the atmospheric concentration and deposition flux of radiocesium in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, from November 2011 to October 2014. The results show synchronous seasonal change in atmospheric concentration and deposition flux of radiocesium, which is high during winter to early spring and low during summer to autumn. These seasonal variations are similar to those observed in Fukushima City but differ from those in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, comprising a larger contaminated forest area.
