Youth living with HIV (YLH) in the United States (U.S.) face significant problems with achieving viral suppression, especially in the South. To examine this issue, YLH with a detectable viral load ( = 61) were recruited from the southern U.S and assessed over 16 weeks for health and treatment factors. Participants were part of a smartphone-based intervention trial. Analyses focused on predictors of viral suppression controlling for intervention effects. Fifty-three percent achieved suppression. In univariate models, YLH who engaged in condomless sex four to 16 weeks into the study (odds ratio [] = 4.00; compared to those who did not) and self-reported ≥ 90% antiretroviral adherence in the first four weeks of the study (= 25.00; compared to youth with <90%) had a higher likelihood of suppression. Shifts in adherence-related social support (= 4.98) and appointments kept (= 2.72) were also associated with suppression. YLH endorsing illicit drug use had a lower likelihood of suppression (= 0.16; compared to those without use). Effects (except drug use) remained significant or approached significance in a multivariate model. Adherence promotion efforts should consider this population's adherence-related social support, drug use, and risk for sexually transmitted infections.

Aim: The interlacing interaction between proto-oncoproteins and tumor-suppressing proteins in malignant canine mammary tumors (mCMT) microenvironment remains largely unexplored. The present study intended to decipher the i) association between the intratumoral expression of ERα, HER-2, pan-RAS, p53 and aromatase, ii) their relationship with the clinicohistological parameters and serum sex hormones, and iii) their prognostic relevance in mCMT.
Materials And Methods: Tumor samples from animals with mCMT (n = 27) were subjected to histopathology and immunohistochemistry for ERα, HER-2, pan-RAS, p53, and aromatase.

Background: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a common but underdiagnosed and undertreated health condition and is the leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) worldwide. HBV (rated a Grade 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer) drives the transformation of hepatocytes in multiple ways by inducing viral DNA integrations, genetic dysregulation, chromosomal translocations, chronic inflammation, and oncogenic pathways facilitated by some HBV proteins. Importantly, these mechanisms are active throughout all phases of HBV infection.

Sepsis is characterized by a concomitant early pro-inflammatory response by immune cells to an infection, and an opposing anti-inflammatory response that results in protracted immunosuppression. The primary pathological event in sepsis is widespread programmed cell death, or cellular self-sacrifice, of innate and adaptive immune cells, leading to profound immunological suppression. This severe immune dysfunction hampers effective primary pathogen clearance, thereby increasing the risk of secondary opportunistic infections, latent viral reactivation, multiple organ dysfunction, and elevated mortality.

Metabolism is typically contextualized in conjunction with proliferation and growth. The roles of metabolic enzymes beyond metabolism-such as in innate immune responses-are underexplored. Using a focused short hairpin RNA (shRNA)-mediated screen, we identified CTP synthetase 1 (CTPS1), a rate-limiting enzyme of pyrimidine synthesis, as a negative regulator of interferon induction.

To interrogate the role of specific immune cells in infection, cancer, and autoimmunity, immunologists commonly use monoclonal depletion antibodies (depletion-mAbs) or genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs). To generate a tool that combines specific advantages and avoids select drawbacks of the two methods, we engineered adeno-associated viral vectors expressing depletion mAbs (depletion-AAVs). Single-dose depletion-AAV administration durably eliminated lymphocyte subsets in mice and avoided accessory deficiencies of GEMMs, such as marginal zone defects in B cell-deficient animals.
