AI Article Synopsis

  • - The study aimed to determine how common carbapenemase-producing bacteria are and evaluate various testing methods to identify them compared to the trusted genetic tests.
  • - The findings revealed that 65% of the tested bacteria were resistant to carbapenem antibiotics.
  • - The phenotypic testing methods assessed are affordable and suitable for laboratories with limited resources, making them useful for screening carbapenem resistance.

Article Abstract

The purpose of this study was to estimate the prevalence and to characterize the carbapenemase-producing by various phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods, and its performance was compared to the gold standard genotypic method. The prevalence of carbapenemase-resistant was found to be 65%. The phenotypic methods evaluated are cost-effective and can be used in resource-limited laboratories to rule out carbapenem resistance.
