Ternary metal sulfide based nanostructured materials are promising for commercialization of the electrochemical energy storage devices. Herein, three different NiCoS nanostructures (nanoflakes, nanosheets, and nanoparticles) were fabricated by electrodeposition. Of these, nanosheets consisting of interconnected nanoparticles formed a highly porous network for supercapacitive energy storage. The electrochemical properties of each electrode were studied in detail and it was observed that the self-supported NiCoS nanosheets possess a highest specific capacity of 590 mA h g (2655 F g) at 0.25 A g current density and cycling stability of 88.7% after 5000 charge-discharge cycles. This excellent behavior is attributed to several factors of the electrode such as high electrochemical active sites and ability of a nanostructure to withstand under high strain and accommodate large number of electrolyte ions during charge-discharge. The electrochemical storage properties of the NiCoS nanosheets were further explored by fabricating battery-like solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor with activated carbon that delivered an ultra-high specific energy and power of 69.7 Wh kg and 8 kW kg, respectively. These outcomes indicate that the novel nanostructured NiCoS network has great potential for the development of energy storage devices.

This study presents the preparation and electrochemical testing of sulfonated styrene-grafted poly(vinylidene fluoride) (pVDF) copolymers as proton exchange membranes (PEMs) for semi-organic redox flow batteries (RFBs) based on 9,10-anthraquinone-2,7-disulfonic acid (AQDS)/bromine. The copolymers are synthesized via a two-step procedure, involving i) atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene (Sty) for the grafting to the pVDF backbone and ii) the sulfonation of the polystyrene grafted side chains. Copolymers with different amounts of sulfonated styrene (SSty) in the side chains (i.

The design of cathode/electrolyte interfaces in high-energy density Li-ion batteries is critical to protect the surface against undesirable oxygen release from the cathodes when batteries are charged to high voltage. However, the involvement of the engineered interface in the cationic and anionic redox reactions associated with (de-)lithiation is often ignored, mostly due to the difficulty to separate these processes from chemical/catalytic reactions at the cathode/electrolyte interface. Here, a new electron energy band diagrams concept is developed that includes the examination of the electrochemical- and ionization- potentials evolution upon batteries cycling.

To enhance the volumetric energy density and initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) of titanium oxide (TiO) as anode electrode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIB), this study employed a surface-confined in-situ inter-growth mechanism to prepare a TiO embedded carbon microsphere composite. The results revealed that the composite exhibited a highly integrated structure of TiO with oxygen vacancies and carbon, along with an exceptionally small specific surface area of 11.52 m/g.

The Layered Composite Roof Structure (LCRS) is a common bearing structure consisting of multiple layers of rock above a coal seam, and the energy stored in this structure plays an important role in the occurrence of rockburst. Few studies have been conducted on the theoretical modeling of energy storage in LCRS. This study theoretically developed a bending energy storage model for LCRS under three conditions, and the theoretical model was verified by simulation and experimental data.
