Published: August 2019

The significant increase in the detection of drug-resistant strains of caused an urgent need for the discovery new antituberculosis drugs. Development of bioinformatics and computational sciences enabled the progress of new strategies leading to design, discovery and identification of a series of interesting drug candidates. In this short review, we would like to present recently discovered compounds targeting important mycobacterial proteins: DNA topoisomerases and the transcriptional repressor of EthA monooxygenase - EthR.

c-FLIP/Ku70 complex; A potential molecular target for apoptosis induction in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Arch Biochem Biophys

January 2025

Department of Regenerative Medicine, Cell Science Research Center, Royan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology, ACECR, Tehran, Iran; Experimental Cancer Medicine, Institution for Laboratory Medicine, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. Electronic address:

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most lethal malignancies worldwide and the most common form of liver cancer. Despite global efforts toward early diagnosis and effective treatments, HCC is often diagnosed at advanced stages, where conventional therapies frequently lead to resistance and/or high recurrence rates. Therefore, novel biomarkers and promising medications are urgently required.

Finerenone and new-onset diabetes in heart failure: a prespecified analysis of the FINEARTS-HF trial.

Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol

January 2025

British Heart Foundation Cardiovascular Research Centre, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK. Electronic address:

Background: Data on the effect of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist therapy on HbA levels and new-onset diabetes are conflicting. We aimed to examine the effect of oral finerenone, compared with placebo, on incident diabetes in the Finerenone Trial to Investigate Efficacy and Safety Superior to Placebo in Patients with Heart Failure (FINEARTS-HF) trial.

Methods: In this randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 6001 participants with heart failure with New York Heart Association functional class II-IV, left ventricular ejection fraction 40% or higher, evidence of structural heart disease, and elevated N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels were randomly assigned to finerenone or placebo, administered orally.

Histamine H receptor blockade alleviates neuropathic pain through the regulation of glial cells activation.

Biomed Pharmacother

January 2025

Maj Institute of Pharmacology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Department of Neurochemistry, 12 Smetna Str., Krakow 31-343, Poland. Electronic address:

Neuropathic pain is a disorder affecting the somatosensory nervous system. However, this condition is also characterized by significant neuroinflammation, primarily involving CNS-resident non-neuronal cells. A promising target for developing new analgesics is histamine H receptor (HR); thus, we aimed to determine the influence of a novel HR antagonist/inverse agonist, E-98 (1-(7-(4-chlorophenoxy)heptyl)-3-methylpiperidine), on pain symptoms and glia activation in model of neuropathic pain in male mice (chronic constriction injury to the sciatic nerve).

Reform of economic evaluation of medicines in Spain: proposals from the Advisory Committee for Pharmaceutical Financing.

Gac Sanit

January 2025

Pharmacy Service, Clínica Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain; Advisory Committee on the Financing of Pharmaceutical (CAPF), Spain.

This paper describes the reforms recommended by the Advisory Committee on the Financing of Pharmaceuticals (CAPF) for the National Health System (NHS) of Spain from 2019 to 2024 for the drug pricing and reimbursement process, to integrate economic evaluations and improve efficiency and sustainability. The CAPF has proposed a three-phase reform of the economic evaluation (EE) and budget impact analysis (BIA) processes. The first phase involves the mandatory submission of EE and BIA by applicants for new drugs.
