Monthly phytolith-occluded organic carbon (PhytOC) content in living leaves and litterfall of Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) were measured for a year. The PhytOC sequestration rate in living leaves of different months were compared with that in annual litterfall to determine the optimum sampling time of living leaves for estimating PhytOC sequestration rate of Moso bamboo. The contents of phytoliths and PhytOC in living leaves of Moso bamboos were 23.45-101.07 g·kg and 0.73-1.98 g·kg, respectively, with significant difference among different months. The monthly PhytOC sequestration rates of living leaves of Moso bamboo in different months ranged from 0.75 to 7.68 kg·hm·a. The maximum and minimum rates of the PhytOC sequestration occurred in December and April respectively, with significant difference between them. There was no difference between the PhytOC sequestration rate in living leaves of Moso bamboos in February or December and that of litterfall in the whole year. Therefore, February or December should be the optimal month of sampling living leaves for estimating the PhytOC sequestration rate of Moso bamboo stands.

Objectives: This study examines employment responses to a partner's disability onset and how this is moderated by working conditions: job satisfaction and psychosocial job demands.

Methods: We use longitudinal nationally representative data from the English Longitudinal Study of Aging. Following the health shock literature, we identify individuals whose partners report the onset of difficulties in activities of daily living (ADL) or instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) between two waves (n=1,020) as experiencing a 'care shock'.

Background: Participation in paid work after childbirth may have important health and socioeconomic impacts on women and their families. We investigated women's employment patterns at six months postpartum and the factors that influence them.

Methods: Using data from a 2018 population-based national maternity survey in England, employment status at six months postpartum was assessed.

Understanding factors that determine a species' geographical range is crucial for predicting climate-induced range shifts. Two milkweed species, Asclepias syriaca and Asclepias speciosa, have overlapping ranges along a moisture gradient in North America and are primary food sources for endangered monarch caterpillars. With decreasing moisture, long-lived species often exhibit slower growth and greater drought tolerance, while many annual species exhibit faster growth strategies.

Recent calls have been made for equity tools and frameworks to be integrated throughout the research and design life cycle -from conception to implementation-with an emphasis on reducing inequity in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications. Simply stating that equity should be integrated throughout, however, leaves much to be desired as industrial ecology (IE) researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers attempt to employ equitable practices. In this forum piece, we use a critical review approach to explain how socioecological inequities emerge in ML applications across their life cycle stages by leveraging the food system.
