Objectives: RA and its medication, especially TNF-α inhibitors, increase the risk of clinical tuberculosis (TB) infection. We aimed to investigate the clinical manifestations, incidence and temporal changes in TB occurring concurrently with rheumatic diseases (RDs) between 1995 and 2007.

Methods: We combined the register of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland and the National Infectious Disease Register to find adult patients with reimbursed DMARDs and with a TB notification between 1995 and 2007. After reviewing the medical records, we described their clinical manifestations and medications, explored TB incidence trends using Poisson regression, and compared the incidence of TB with that of the general population.

Results: We identified 291 patients with both TB and rheumatic disease (RD), 196 of whom had RA. Between 1995 and 2007, the incidence of TB in adult RD decreased from 58.8 to 30.0 per 100 000 (trend < 0.001, average marginal effect -3.4/100 000 per year, 95% CI -4.4, -2.4). Compared with the general population, the incidence was ∼4-fold. Among RD patients, pulmonary TB was the most common form of TB (72.6%). Disseminated TB was present in 56 (19.6%) patients.

Conclusion: The incidence of TB among RD patients was ∼4-fold that of the general population, and it declined between 1995 and 2007. Disseminated TB was present in nearly 20% of patients.

'Frozen' virus genome sequences are sampled from outbreaks and have unusually low sequence divergence when compared to genome sequences from historical strains. A growing number of 'frozen' virus genome sequences are being reported as virus genome sequencing becomes more common. Examples of 'frozen' sequences include the 1977 H1N1 'Russian' flu; Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus from Venezuela and Colombia in 1995; E71 sequences from a Hand, Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2007-2009 in China; and a polio strain isolated in 2014 from Anhui, China.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) are associated with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The current study aimed to evaluate the trends in the incidence of ENKTL and NPC in Taiwan within the last 15-30 years. To assess the incidence of ENKTL from 2008 to 2021 and NPC from 1995 to 2021, an epidemiological study was performed using population-based registry data from the Taiwan Cancer Registry.

Objectives: There is limited evidence regarding the impact of lipid-lowering drugs (LLDs) on the socioeconomic gradient in a longitudinal perspective. The study investigates the longitudinal socioeconomic gradient in total cholesterol levels and whether this is affected by the use of LLDs.

Design: Population-based cohort study.

A monotypic South American genus Micreurygenius Pic, 1942 (hitherto in Eurygeniinae LeConte, 1862) is synonymized with Ischyropalpus La Ferté-Sénectère, 1849 (Anthicini Latreille, 1819) and, accordingly, moved to Anthicinae Latreille, 1819. A new combination is proposed for its only known species, Ischyropalpus angustatus (Pic, 1942) comb. nov.

The genus Andrena is the second largest genus of bees, and is undergoing a period of concentrated study that has resulted in the description or recognition of almost 200 additional species during the last decade. This process is far from complete, and substantial revisions are required even in well-studied regions; this present work contributes to this ongoing process. The following new synonymies are reported (senior name first): Andrena (Chrysandrena) fulvago (Christ, 1791) = A.
