Acute pancreatitis is a serious, potentially life threatning inflammatory disorder of the pancreas usually caused by alcohol use or gallstones. Other causes include certain drugs (such as antibiotics, antihypertensive medications, and immunosuppressants) and extremley high triglyceride levels.Cannabis use has been identified as an uncommon cause of acute pancreatitis. However, due to its rarity in the general population, it has been low on practitioners' differential diagnosis. As a result, the incidence is likely underrepresented as these patients' recurrent episodes of pancreatitis are likely labeled as idiopathic when in fact they are not. This case report highlights the importance of keeping a wide differential when considering possible causes of pancreatitis.

DEHP leaches from plastic matrices and is under increasing scrutiny as numerous studies have linked it to negative human health manifestations. Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB) is a human pathogen that typically causes subclinical infections but can sometimes cause severe diseases such as pancreatitis, myocarditis, and meningoencephalitis.

Network Toxicology and Molecular Docking Analysis of Tetracycline-Induced Acute Pancreatitis: Unveiling Core Mechanisms and Targets.

Toxics

December 2024

West China Center of Excellence for Pancreatitis, Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

Acute pancreatitis (AP), induced by tetracycline, a widely used antibiotic, poses significant clinical and toxicological challenges, yet its molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to promote drug toxicology strategies for the effective investigation of the putative toxicity and potential molecular mechanisms of antibiotic drugs through the study of tetracycline in AP. Using the SwissTargetPrediction, SEA Search, Super-PRED, GeneCards, Drugbank, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), and Therapeutic Target Database (TTD), we identified 259 potential targets associated with tetracycline exposure and AP.

The Emerging Scenario of Ferroptosis in Pancreatic Cancer Tumorigenesis and Treatment.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

National "111" Center for Cellular Regulation and Molecular Pharmaceutics, Key Laboratory of Fermentation Engineering (Ministry of Education), Hubei University of Technology, Wuhan 430068, China.

Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most lethal forms of cancer. Currently, there is a lack of effective drug treatments for pancreatic cancer. However, as a newly discovered form of non-apoptotic cell death, ferroptosis has garnered increasing attention in relation to pancreatic cancer.

: Drawing upon over twenty years of clinical experience in endoscopic and endosonographic procedures, along with comprehensive literature research, we present an overview on EUS-guided pancreatography and pancreatic duct drainage (EUS-PD) as an alternative approach, encompassing indications, procedural methods, and outcomes, including complications and the success rate. Narrative review. (corner points): EUS-PD is indicated for cases, for which conventional methods are ineffective due to altered abdominal anatomy of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, such as congenital or postoperative conditions that prevent access to the papilla or pancreatoenteric anastomosis.

Pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBMJ) has a long common channel (CC) that causes pancreaticobiliary reflux (PBR), which has been implicated in gallstones, cholangiocarcinoma, and pancreatitis. By contrast, PBR has occurred in cases with normal and longer CCs than normal but shorter than PBMJ. This pathophysiology has been primarily reported in adults and rarely in children.
