Plasticizers are widely present in water and soil environment, and they can bring enormous threats to environmental safety and human health. A discharge plasma system driven by a high-frequency electric source was used to remove the plasticizer from wastewater; and dimethyl phthalate (DMP) was chosen as the representative of plasticizer. DMP elimination performance at various operating parameters, roles of active species in DMP degradation, DMP decomposition process, and its residual toxicity after decomposition were systematically investigated. The experimental results demonstrated that almost all of the DMP and 80.4% of the total organic carbon (TOC) were removed after 30 min of treatment. The DMP decomposition process fitted well with the first-order kinetic model. Relatively higher applied voltage, lower initial concentration, and alkaline conditions favored its decomposition. •OH was the decisive species for DMP decomposition, in addition to •O and O; while the role of hydrated electrons was negligible. The analysis of DMP decomposition process showed that the molecular structures of the DMP were destroyed, and 3-hydroxy-dimethyl phthalate, monomethyl phthalate, and phthalic acid were detected. Furthermore, the residual toxicity after DMP decomposition was analyzed via seed germination and photobacterium bioassay.

Epoxy resins (EPs) are highly flammable, and traditional flame retardant modifications often lead to a significant reduction in their mechanical performance, limiting their applications in aerospace and electrical and electronic fields. In this study, a novel flame retardant, bis(4-(((diphenylphosphoryl)oxy)methyl)phenyl)phenyl phosphate (DMP), was successfully prepared and introduced into the EP matrix. When the addition of DMP was 9 wt%, the EP/9 wt% DMP thermosets passed the UL-94 V-0 rating, and their LOI was increased from 24.

Due to the unique photosensitivity of silver compounds, they exhibit good photocatalytic activity as photocatalysts in the degradation of water pollutants. However, silver compounds have poor cycling stability and are prone to decomposition and reaction under light to form metallic silver, which greatly limits their practical application. Herein, a (2-(2-(diphenylphosphaneyl)ethyl)-9-methyl-1.

Fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) represent a promising class of engineering materials due to their mechanical performance. However, the vast majority of FRCs are currently manufactured using carbon and glass fibers, which raises concerns because of the difficulties in recycling and the reliance on finite fossil resources. On the other hand, the use of natural fibers is still hampered due to the problems such as, e.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created carbon-based nanocomposites by combining CoCr layered double hydroxide (LDH) with graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), confirmed through various analytical techniques like X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy.
  • The CoCr LDH/rGO nanocomposite showed exceptional effectiveness, achieving 100% decomposition of dimethyl phthalate (DMP) in 20 minutes during photo-assisted sonocatalysis, due to enhanced surface area and reduced band gap from the presence of rGO.
  • Additionally, the study indicated that the antibacterial properties of the CoCr LDH were improved when hybridized with rGO, suggesting potential applications in catalysis and antibacterial treatments.
