Objective: To enhance the biodesulfurization rate using a kinetic model that directs the ratio of Dsz enzymes.
Results: This study established a kinetic model that predicted the optimal ratio of Dsz enzymes in the 4S biodesulfurization system to be A:B:C = 1:2:4 and 1:4:2. When BCAD+1A+4B+2C, the conversion rate of dibenzothiophene (DBT) to 2-hydroxybiphenyl (HBP) was close to 100% in vitro. When the gene dose of dszC was increased, the HBP yield of the recombinant strain BL21(DE3)/BCAD + C reached approximately 0.012 mM in vivo, which was approximately 6-fold higher than that of the BCAD strain.
Conclusions: According to the results predicted by the enzyme kinetic model, maintaining higher concentrations of DszC and DszB in the desulfurization system can effectively improve the desulfurization efficiency.

Discontinuous solid-solid phase transformations play a pivotal role in determining the properties of rechargeable battery electrodes. By leveraging operando Bragg Coherent Diffractive Imaging (BCDI), we investigate the discontinuous phase transformation in LiNiMnO within an operational Li metal coin cell. Throughout Li-intercalation, we directly observe the nucleation and growth of the Li-rich phase within the initially charged Li-poor phase in a 500 nm particle.

Nanoporous metals have unique potentials for energy applications with a high surface area despite the percolating structure. Yet, a highly corrosive environment is required for the synthesis of porous metals with conventional dealloying methods, limiting the large-scale fabrication of porous structures for reactive metals. In this study, we synthesize a highly reactive Mg nanoporous system through a facile organic solution-based approach without any harsh etching.

The outstanding efficiency and selectivity of enzymatic reactions, such as C-H oxidation by nonheme iron oxygenases, stems from a precise control of substrate positioning inside the active site. The resulting proximity between a specific moiety (a certain C-H bond) to the reactant (a FeIV(O) active species) translates into higher rates and selectivity, that can be in part replicated also with artificial supramolecular catalysts. However, structural modification of the position and orientation of the binding site both in enzymes and in artificial catalysts often leads to significant variations in reactivity that can be difficult to rationalize due to the system's complexity.

Non-enzymatic glycation is the chemical reaction between the amine group of an amino acid and the carbonyl group of a reducing sugar. The final products of this reaction, advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), are known to play a key role in aging and many chronic diseases. The kinetics of the AGE formation reaction depends on several factors, including pH, temperature, and the presence of prooxidant metals, such as iron and copper.

Introduction: The wearable cyborg Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL) is a therapeutic exoskeletal device that provides voluntary gait assistance using kinematic/kinetic gait data and bioelectrical signals. By utilizing the gait data automatically measured by HAL, we are developing a system to analyze the wearer's gait during the intervention, unlike conventional evaluations that compare pre- and post-treatment gait test results. Despite the potential use of the gait data from the HAL's sensor information, there is still a lack of analysis using such gait data and knowledge of gait patterns during HAL use.
