Heterogeneous reactions between gaseous pollutants and mineral particles have gradually become a research hotspot in the field of atmospheric chemistry. In this paper, competitive reactions between SO and acetic acid on the surface of α-AlO and CaCO particles were studied by the diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopic (DRIFTS) technique in dark and dry conditions. At the same time, the temporary evolution of the integrated absorbance of acetate and sulfite was investigated to further understand the interaction of SO and acetic acid on the mineral particles. On the surface of α-AlO particles, acetate and sulfite can compete for surface-active sites, resulting in a decrease in the total amount of acetates. In dark and dry conditions, the effect of acetic acid on SO cannot be obtained by the DRIFTS method. On the surface of CaCO particles, SO can have a competitive impact on acetic acid by grabbing active sites, leading to a slight decrease of the amount of acetates. The heterogeneous reaction of SO can be impeded by coexisting acetic acid, resulting in a drastic reduction of the number of sulfites. It can be seen that the formation mechanisms of acetate and sulfite on the surface of different mineral particles in the atmosphere are different, which provides a variety of ideas and possibilities for the formation of related inorganic and organic salts in the atmosphere.

In recent years, there has been a surge in the production of kombucha-a functional beverage obtained via microbial fermentation of tea. However, fresh, unpasteurized kombucha is sensitive to quality deterioration as a result of, among other factors, oxidation. The addition of hops seems to be promising, due to their antioxidative properties, which may improve the stability of kombucha.

Background: Long-term use of chemical weed control has led to some weedy species evolving herbicide resistance traits with fitness advantage. Our previous studies revealed glyphosate resistance in an Eleusine indica population due to copy number variation of 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) comes with fitness advantage under non-competitive conditions. Here, transcriptomics and targeted metabolomics were used to investigate physiological basis associated with the fitness advantage.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to utilize four rice pasta by-products (RPB), including white rice pasta, black jasmine rice pasta, red jasmine rice pasta and brown rice pasta, to ferment into four vinegars. The dynamic variations during fermentation and their quality were evaluated. During alcoholic fermentation, the saccharified substrates were fermented with for 12 days, resulting in an alcohol yield of approximately 10% (v/v) after 4 days of fermentation.

We report on the synthesis and characterization of an imine-type nickel complex produced the complexation of an generated 2-(iminomethyl)phenol ligand with Ni ion. The use of this complex as an electrocatalyst for H evolution in a DMF solution, with acetic acid as the proton source, was investigated in detail, employing both experimental analyses (electrochemical analysis, spectroscopy analysis) and theoretical analysis (plateau current analysis). The overpotential required for H evolution is about 590 mV with a faradaic efficiency of 49% after 3 hours bulk electrolysis, competing with the two-electron reduction of free-imine groups in the ligand.

Fluorescent probes are widely used in cellular imaging and disease diagnosis. Acting as substitute carriers, fluorescent probes can also be used to help transport drugs within cells. In this study, commonly used fluorophores, TAMRA (5-carboxytetramethylrhodamine), PBA (1-pyrenebutyric acid), NBD (nitrobenzoxadiazole), OG (Oregon Green), and CF (5-carboxyfluorescein) were conjugated with the dipeptide β-Ala-Lys, the peptide moiety of the well-established peptide transporter substrate β-Ala-Lys(AMCA) (AMCA: 7-amino-4-methyl-coumarin-3-acetic acid) by modifying it with respect to side-chain length and functional end groups.
