In this work, oxygenated carbon nitride nanosheets (OCNNSs) were first introduced to the field of analytic chemistry for solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The rich hydroxyl and carboxyl contents of OCNNSs provided abundant adsorption sites. The coated stainless steel fibers, synthesized by the layer-by-layer chemical bonding method, had good chemical stability (in organic solvents), long life (durability ≥ 150 cycles), and good reproducibility (RSDs ≤ 9.2%). This novel OCNNSs-coated fiber was used for SPME with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the analysis of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) in three types of food products (seafood, samshu, and instant noodles). Under optimal conditions, the limits of detection (LODs) for the PAEs ranged from 0.1 to 10.0 pg mL, and recovery was in the range of 80.0-118.1%. These novel coated SPME fibers displayed excellent separation and enrichment properties, which suggest a pretreatment application for analysis of PAEs.

Hydrogen-bonded cocrystals have attracted considerable attention as they allow fine-tuning of properties through the choice of hydrogen-bond donors and acceptors. In this study, triphenylarsine oxide (PhAsO) is introduced as a strong hydrogen-bond acceptor molecule. Due to its higher Lewis basicity compared to triphenylphosphine oxide (PhPO), it acts as a strong hydrogen-bond acceptor, which is demonstrated in six new cocrystals with HO and -di(hydroperoxy)cycloalkanes.

Hydrogel-based sensors typically demonstrate conspicuous swelling behavior in aqueous environments, which can severely compromise the mechanical integrity and distort sensing signals, thereby considerably constraining their widespread applicability. Drawing inspiration from the multilevel heterogeneous structures in biological tissues, an antiswelling hydrogel sensor endowed with high strength, rapid self-recovery, and low swelling ratio was fabricated through a water-induced phase separation and coordination cross-linking strategy. A dense heterogeneous architecture was developed by the integration of "rigid" quadridentate carboxyl-Zr coordination bonds and "soft" hydrophobic unit-rich regions featuring π-π stacking and cation-π interactions into the hydrogels.

It is difficult to intuit how electronic structure features-such as band gap magnitude, location of band extrema, effective masses, -arise from the underlying crystal chemistry of a material. Here we present a strategy to distill sparse and chemically-interpretable tight-binding models from density functional theory calculations, enabling us to interpret how multiple orbital interactions in a 3D crystal conspire to shape the overall band structure. Applying this process to silicon, we show that its indirect gap arises from a competition between first and second nearest-neighbor bonds-where second nearest-neighbor interactions pull the conduction band down from Γ to X in a cosine shape, but the first nearest-neighbor bonds push the band up near X, resulting in the characteristic dip of the silicon conduction band.

This study explores the optoelectronic and photovoltaic potential of acceptor-π-donor (A-π-D) architectures utilizing CSi quantum dots (CSiQDs) through a combination of density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TDDFT). We examined two key structural configurations: C-C and Si-C conformers. In these systems, CSiQDs serve as the acceptor, CHSF as the π-bridge, and 3 × (CHO) as the donor.

Organic compounds present promising options for sustainable zinc battery electrodes. Nevertheless, the electrochemical properties of current organic electrodes still lag behind those of their inorganic counterparts. In this study, nitro groups were incorporated into pyrene-4, 5, 9, 10-tetraone (PTO), resulting in an elevated discharge voltage due to their strong electron-withdrawing capabilities.
