We report a compact, long nanosecond (ns) pulse duration stretched laser source by a multi-pass cavity (MPC). Based on the combination of the MPC and pump power, a high-power high beam quality 1064 nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with a pulse duration adjustable over the range of 160-1000 ns was obtained at a pulse repetition frequency of 10 kHz for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. At a typical pulse width of 560 ns, an average output power of 10.6 W was successfully achieved. The beam quality factor M was measured to be 1.45 with a good Gaussian mode.

Introduction: No clear guidelines exist for unfractionated heparin (UFH) monitoring in adult patients on veno-arterial extracorporeal life support (VA-ECLS) for refractory cardiogenic shock. In this study, we sought to compare outcomes between anti-factor Xa (FXa) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) strategies for UFH monitoring during VA-ECLS.

Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective review of VA-ECLS patients who received UFH in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit between July 2019 and November 2023.

The United States Food and Drug Administration approved xanomeline-trospium combination for schizophrenia on September-26-2024. We conducted a PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review with random-effects meta-analysis on the efficacy and safety of xanomeline-trospium in randomized controlled trials in patients with schizophrenia (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, PsycINFO, October-01-2024). Co-primary outcomes were Positive And Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total score (standardized mean difference=SMD), and all-cause discontinuation (risk ratio=RR).

Objectives: The pathophysiological mechanisms of status epilepticus (SE) underlying potential brain injury remain largely unclear. This study aims to employ functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) combined with video-electroencephalography (vEEG) to monitor brain hemodynamics continuously and non-invasively in critically ill adult patients experiencing electrographic SE. Our primary focus is to investigate neurovascular coupling and cerebrovascular changes associated with seizures, particularly during recurring and/or prolonged episodes.

As the Fontan population grows, understanding successful strategies for ventricular assist device (VAD) support of the failing Fontan circulation is needed. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients with Fontan circulation and systemic VAD support in the Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) registry. Competing outcomes and Kaplan-Meier estimated survival methods were used.

Light-harvesting complex II (LHCII), the most abundant membrane protein in photosystem II, plays dual roles, i.e., efficient light harvesting and energy transfer to the reaction center under low light conditions and dissipating excess energy as heat to prevent photodamage under high irradiation conditions.
