Published: September 2019

The first complete genome sequence of a little cherry virus-2 (LChV-2-TA) isolate from China was determined using small RNA deep sequencing combined with overlapping reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that LChV-2-TA grouped in a well-supported cluster with members of the genus with close relationships to previously reported LChV-2 isolates.

Diseases that affect the vascular system or the pith are of great economic impact since they can rapidly destroy the affected plants, leading to complete loss in production. Fast and precise identification is thus important to inform containment and management, but many identification methods are slow because they are culture-dependent and they do not reach strain resolution. Here we used culture-independent long-read metagenomic sequencing of DNA extracted directly from stems of two tomato samples that displayed wilt symptoms.

Taylorella equigenitalis is the causative agent of sexually transmitted contagious equine metritis. Infections manifest as cervicitis, vaginitis and endometritis and cause temporary infertility and miscarriages of mares. While previous studies have analyzed this organism for various parameters, the evolutionary dynamics of this pathogen, including the emergence of antibiotic resistance, remains unresolved.

Background: Microglia are the major innate immune cells of the brain and play diverse roles in brain development and homeostasis. In the context of Alzheimer's disease, microglia acquire new phenotypes that can exert protective or pathogenic roles. Single cell and single nuclei RNA sequencing experiments have defined molecular signatures of different disease-associated microglia states associated with protective or pathogenic functions, but the mechanisms driving these transitions are not known.

Alzheimers Dement

Background: The TMEM106B protein is critical for proper functioning of the endolysomal system, which is utilised by all cells to traffic and degrade molecular cargo. Genome-wide association studies identified a haplotype in the TMEM106B gene that is associated with increased risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and frontotemporal lobar degeneration with TAR DNA binding protein inclusions (FTLD-TDP). However, the causal variant that drives the association has thus far remained elusive.
