The "Angular Spatial Light Modulator" (ASLM) achieves simultaneous angular and spatial light modulation at a plane by combining Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) based programmable blazed grating beam steering and binary pattern sequencing. The ASLM system multiplies the number of effective output pixels of the DMD for increased spatial and/or angular degrees of freedom, and nearly-doubles the étendue output of the DMD. We implement multiple illumination and projection schemes to demonstrate ASLM-based extended FOV display, light-field projection, and multi-view display. We also implement time-multiplexed pupil segmented illumination to extend the pattern steering to two dimensions.

In light of the Chinese government's dual carbon goals, achieving cleaner production activities has become a central focus, with regional environmental collaborative governance, including the management of agricultural carbon reduction, emerging as a mainstream approach. This study examines 268 prefecture-level cities in China, measuring the carbon emission efficiency of city agriculture from 2001 to 2022. By integrating social network analysis and a modified gravity model, the study reveals the characteristics of the spatial association network of city agricultural carbon emission efficiency in China.

Mid-infrared photoacoustic microscopy can capture biochemical information without staining. However, the long mid-infrared optical wavelengths make the spatial resolution of photoacoustic microscopy significantly poorer than that of conventional confocal fluorescence microscopy. Here, we demonstrate an explainable deep learning-based unsupervised inter-domain transformation of low-resolution unlabeled mid-infrared photoacoustic microscopy images into confocal-like virtually fluorescence-stained high-resolution images.

Dynamic control of 2D non-Hermitian photonic corner skin modes in synthetic dimensions.

Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics, University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA.

Non-Hermitian models describe the physics of ubiquitous open systems with gain and loss. One intriguing aspect of non-Hermitian models is their inherent topology that can produce intriguing boundary phenomena like resilient higher-order topological insulators (HOTIs) and non-Hermitian skin effects (NHSE). Recently, time-multiplexed lattices in synthetic dimensions have emerged as a versatile platform for the investigation of these effects free of geometric restrictions.

A liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) actuator capable of colorimetric humidity sensing is realized. The designed LCE features acid protonated amino azobenzene side groups in its structure, which endow the actuator with the hygroscopicity and act as the humidity reporter via color changes. Given that the protonated and deprotonated chromophore absorb visible light at different wavelengths, when the protonated LCE is under higher humidity, it absorbs more water that deprotonates azobenzene and leads to a change in color.

Optimization of Existing RNA Visualization Methods Reveals Novel Dendritic mRNA Dynamics.

Front Biosci (Landmark Ed)

December 2024

Department of Biological Sciences, Hunter College, City University of New York, New York, NY 10065, USA.

Background: Spatial-temporal control of mRNA translation in dendrites is important for synaptic plasticity. In response to pre-synaptic stimuli, local mRNA translation can be rapidly triggered near stimulated synapses to supply the necessary proteins for synapse maturation or elimination, and 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) are responsible for proper localization of mRNAs in dendrites. Although is a robust technique for analyzing RNA localization in fixed neurons, live-cell imaging of RNA dynamics remains challenging.
