After briefly recalling the professional pathology characteristics of workers exposed to nitro derivatives and the perplexities surrounding the actual pathogenetic mechanism of the "Withdrawal hazard", the AA report the results of an investigation carried out among the workers of a dynamite producing plant. In the study, the NG and EGDN environmental levels were checked and the workers were submitted to ECG tracings, ECG D according to Holter, and monitoring of postural pressure changes both during exposure to the substances and during time-outs. The results obtained showed that the concentrations found in the plant were practically within the recommended TLV values, with no pathological modifications of the parameters examined. The AA put forward a pathogenetic hypothesis based on these findings and analyzing epidemiologic data on coronary sudden death as well as the mechanisms regarded as responsible for the disorders described in the literature in professionally exposed subjects. According to such hypothesis, the "Withdrawal hazard" (if any) would not be due to the cessation of the vasodilation effect of the nitro derivatives but would be a "rebound" phenomenon following the NG - and EGDN - inhalation induced stimulation to the production of endothelial prostaglandins, and of EDRF in particular, in exposed workers. The withdrawal of nitro derivatives inhalation would thus eliminate a vascular and coronary protection mechanism in the case of pathogenetic noxae at cardiovascular level. Such an interpretation would at last account for the time elapsing between cessation of work and occurrence of the disorders, which would not be justified by the cessation of the mere vasodilating action, since this wears out within a few hours.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

The aromaticity of a representative sample of pro-aromatic radicals and its nitro, amino, hydroxyl and imine substituted derivatives has been analysed by means of multicentre delocalization indices (MCI) and nuclear-independent chemical shifts (NICS). Because of their radical character, these compounds may exhibit conflicting α/ß aromaticity, so that the contribution of α and β electrons to the MCI and NICS has been analysed separately and their values qualitatively interpreted in terms of the 2n+1/2n rule. All the monocyclic radicals investigated show conflicting α/β aromaticity.

The research aimed to develop of a thiabendazole-derived dual metal sensing probe (TBZT) for the selective detection of metal ions and to explore its metal complexes in reducing environmental pollutants like nitro-phenol and dyes. Absorption and emission based studies predicted the selectivity and sensitivity of TBZT towards Ni(II) and Co(II) ions which was further validated by HNMR, Mass, FT-IR, DFT, Docking, electrochemical, TGA studies and vibrating sample magnetometer analysis techniques. Limit of detection (LOD) values were calculated as 2 × 10 M and 4.

Atomically precise metal nanoclusters (NCs) have recently been recognized as an emerging sector of metal nanomaterials but suffer from light-induced poor stability, giving rise to the detrimental self-transformation into metal nanocrystals (NYs), losing the photosensitization effect and ultimately retarding their widespread applications in photoredox catalysis. Are metal NCs definitely superior to metal NYs in heterogeneous photocatalysis in terms of structural merits? To unlock this mystery, herein, we conceptually demonstrate how to rationally manipulate the instability of metal NCs to construct high-efficiency artificial photosystems and examine how the metal NYs self-transformed from metal NCs influence charge transfer in photoredox selective organic transformation. To our surprise, the results indicate that the Schottky-type electron-trapping ability of Au NYs surpasses the photosensitization effect of glutathione (GSH)-protected Au clusters [Au(GSH) NCs] in mediating charge separation and enhancing photoactivities towards selective photoreduction of aromatic nitro compounds to amino derivatives and photocatalytic oxidation of aromatic alcohols to aldehydes under visible light irradiation.

The synthetic availability and wide range of biological activity of hydrazides and hydrazones make them attractive subjects for investigation. In this study, we focused on synthesis of 2-methyl-5-nitro-6-phenylnicotinohydrazide-based hydrazones derived from the corresponding substituted aldehydes. The structure of the obtained compounds was studied using NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations.
