One of the big challenge of studying the core-shell iron nanostructures is to know the nature of oxide shell, i.e., whether it is γ-FeO (Maghemite), FeO (Magnetite), α-FeO (Hematite), or FeO (Wustite). By knowing the nature of iron oxide shell with zero valent iron core, one can determine the chemical or physical behavior of core-shell nanostructures. Fe core-shell nanochains (NCs) were prepared through the reduction of Fe ions by sodium boro-hydride in aqueous solution at room atmosphere, and Fe NCs were further aged in water up to 240 min. XRD was used to study the structure of Fe NCs. Further analysis of core-shell nature of Fe NCs was done by TEM, results showed increase in thickness of oxide shell (from 2.5, 4, 6 to 10 nm) as water aging time increases (from 0 min, 120 min, 240 min to 360 min). The Raman spectroscopy was employed to study the oxide nature of Fe NCs. To further confirm the magnetite phase in Fe NCs, the Mössbauer spectroscopy was done on Fe NCs-0 and Fe NCs-6. Result shows the presence of magnetite in the sample before aging in water, and the sample after prolonged aging contains pure Hematite phase. It shows that prolonged water oxidation transforms the structure of shell of Fe NCs from mixture of Hematite and Magnetite in to pure hematite shell. The Magnetic properties of the Fe NCs were measured by VSM at 320 K. Because of high saturation magnetization (Ms) values, Fe NCs could be used as r contrasts agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in near future.

Dimethoate is a toxic organophosphorus insecticide and its contamination of water poses a threat to the surrounding ecosystem. In order to enhance the removal effect of ferrate (Fe(VI)) on dimethoate, modified graphene-like biochar (SIZBC) with reduction and adsorption properties was prepared in this study. Compared with Fe(VI) alone, the removal of dimethoate by Fe(VI)/SIZBC increased from 26 % to more than 97 %, and the reaction rate was accelerated by 34 times.

Tumor heterogeneity, immune-suppressive microenvironment and the precise killing of tumor cells by drugs are important factors affecting tumor treatment. In this study, we developed environment-responsive drug delivery system (FM@IQ/PST&ZIF-8/DOX) based on ZIF-8 for tumor photothermal/immunotherapy/chemotherapy synergistic therapy. The prepared FM@IQ/PST&ZIF-8/DOX nanoplatfrom not only has highly drug loading capacity for chemotherapeutic drug-doxorubicin, but also erythrocyte membrance modified on their surface can endow their immunity-escaping property and prolong their blood circulation time.

Novel functional materials possessing the capability to attenuate electromagnetic energy are being increasingly incorporated into home decor as concerns over excessive electromagnetic radiation pollution continue to grow. The properties of magnetism and dielectricity in the flexible peanut shell/CoFeO/reduced graphene oxide/polyvinyl alcohol (PS/CF/(RGO)/PVA) nanocomposites can be finely tuned by adjusting the amount of RGO in the mixture. An examination of the composite's absorption capabilities revealed a direct link between higher RGO content and enhanced absorption.

The controlled formation and stabilization of nanoparticles is of fundamental relevance for materials science and key to many modern technologies. Common synthetic strategies to arrest growth at small sizes and prevent undesired particle agglomeration often rely on the use of organic additives and require non-aqueous media and/or high temperatures, all of which appear critical with respect to production costs, safety, and sustainability. In the present work, we demonstrate a simple one-pot process in water under ambient conditions that can produce particles of various transition metal carbonates and sulfides with sizes of only a few nanometers embedded in a silica shell, similar to particles derived from more elaborate synthesis routes, like the sol-gel process.
