A 61-year-old male who lived for 30 years in a rural area presented chest pain of 3 months duration. Multiple hydatid cysts (Echinococcus granulosus) were diagnosed in the pericardium and the mediastinum by echocardiography and computed tomography. The cysts were removed successfully with the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass and beating heart.  This video tutorial shows how we removed the cysts, using the puncture-aspiration and enucleation technique.  Few videos of this technique exist, and we believe that this tutorial is a helpful demonstration of how to handle mediastinal and pericardial hydatid cysts.

Exploring the variability of the intestinal flora of patients with hepatic blastocysticercosis and searching for members of the intestinal microflora that may play a role in the disease process by means of macro-genome sequencing technology. A case-control study was used to include fecal samples from patients with hepatic vesicular schistosomiasis admitted to Qinghai Provincial People's Hospital between October 2023 and January 2024 and individuals attending health checkups. The experimental group (AE group) consisted of 10 patients with liver vesicular schistosomiasis and the control group (NC group) consisted of 9 individuals attending health checkups.

Echinococcus granulosus is a zoonotic dog parasite, which causes cystic echinococcosis in humans and animals, adversely affecting health and food production. The resultant socio-economic impacts in lower-middle-income countries and the paucity of epidemiology data prompted the World Health Organization to classify cystic echinococcosis as a neglected tropical disease. Between November 2019 and December 2020, the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis was assessed from 3600 post-slaughter livestock (1142 sheep, 1258 goats and 1200 buffalo) from three districts, Narowal, Sheikhupura and Sialkot, in Northern Punjab, Pakistan.
