Introduction: Postoperative discomfort is a documented complication of the epithelialized palatal graft (EPG) procedure, and the expectation of an unpleasant patient experience may cause some practitioners to avoid EPG altogether. However, EPG affords distinct advantages in a variety of clinical situations, and the postoperative discomfort associated with the procedure can be minimized.

Case Series: Three generally and periodontally healthy patients with gingival recession defects and minimal zones of attached gingiva received mandibular anterior EPG procedures. In all cases, collagen membranes were trimmed to fit the palatal donor sites and sutured in place. Two patients reported minimal donor site discomfort at any time point. One patient with large bilateral donor sites reported moderate palatal discomfort limited to the first postoperative week. All patients reported overall positive treatment experiences.

Conclusions: Placement of a resorbable collagen membrane at large EPG harvest sites appears to limit topical irritation of the wound and may substantially improve patient comfort postoperatively. Combining local and systemic measures to minimize patient discomfort may render EPG procedures very tolerable for patients. Controlled clinical trials comparing patient-centered outcomes following EPG harvest with and without collagen membrane placement appear warranted.

[Total nasal reconstruction by folded forearm radial flap: Technical note].

Ann Chir Plast Esthet

Total nasal reconstruction represents a complex challenge, requiring restoration of all three anatomical planes while preserving respiratory function. This procedure has significant therapeutic, aesthetic, social and professional implications for patients. We share our academic experience of reconstruction using a folded microanastomosed radial forearm flap (FRFF) combined with a paramedian forehead flap, using the technique of F.

Phase-Engineered ZrO for Tuning Catalytic Oxidation of Dichloromethane Over W/ZrO:Zr-Doped WO Clusters and the Hydrolysis-Oxidation Mechanism.

Catalytic elimination through an oxidative decomposition pathway is the most promising candidate for the purification of chlorinated volatile organic compound (CVOC) pollutants, but the complicated mechanisms and the formation pathways of hydrogenated byproducts still need to be clearly revealed. Herein, W/ZrO, as a structure-tunable catalyst, is used to catalytically oxidize dichloromethane (DCM) and clarify the formation pathway of monochloromethane (MCM). Crystal engineering of ZrO tailors surface WO species; practically, the predominant Zr-WO clusters and crystalline WO can be obtained on monoclinic (m-ZrO) and tetragonal (t-ZrO) phases.

Purpose: Conjunctival autografts (CAGs) are the gold standard treatment after pterygium resection, but it is challenging to achieve consistently thin Tenon-free CAGs with manual dissection. We herein report the reproducibility and clinical outcomes of a novel algorithm to produce customizable trapezoidal CAGs using femtosecond laser (femtosecond lasers)-assisted pterygium surgery.

Methods: We first tested this algorithm in 4 pig eyes to show reproducibility.

Background: The persistently low number of postmortem organ donations in Germany has repeatedly led to political discussions and most recently to the amendment of the Transplantation Act with the strengthening of the role of the transplantation officer and the introduction of a register to document the will to donate. The background to these decisions was the assumption that a relevant proportion of potential organ donors in hospitals were being overlooked and not reported. However, due to the lack of guidelines as to when a potential organ donor must be reported to the DSO ("Deutsche Stiftung Organspende"), the existing data is only of limited validity.

Background/purpose: Bone reconstruction in the maxillofacial region typically relies on autologous bone grafting, which presents challenges, including donor site complications and graft limitations. Recent advances in tissue engineering have identified highly pure and proliferative dedifferentiated fat cells (DFATs) as promising alternatives. Herein, we explored the capacity for osteoblast differentiation and the osteoinductive characteristics of extracellular vesicles derived from DFATs (DFAT-EVs).
